from a purely historic point of view, it was a very active decade; the 60's gets all of the press but without the 50's nothing that happened in the 50's could have happened (at least, not the way it ended up happening). now, would anyone want to actually switch timelines? probably not.

It's kind of ironic, but back in the late '80s and early '90s that's *how* we looked on the '50s, culturally. Seeing old film clips from that era at the time was all "LOL they dressed so weird and they were a bunch of stultified old fuddy-duddies".

Now (and really since ~2000)? You can't throw a stone without hitting something purposely retro-themed and on top of that liberals have really re-examined that era from an economic point of view and it really changes your perspective on the era.
