both. people think the manga is literally the best thing ever, deconstructs the shonen genre, write deep 5000 word character analysis for minor characters, praise it as one of the only series with 'good female characters' plus lesbians, and puts down every other series as inferior and i just feel like they haven't watched a lot of anime. also i don't think it's that good, especially with the recent chapters.

and people say the anime ABSOLUTELY RUINED the manga and blow it waaaay out of proportion. like, i agree the anime made some stupid changes that don't make any sense, but compare to a lot of other adaptions it was okay??

thankfully, the fandom's kinda dying down. but, yeah i thought it was pretty good and the fandom raised it to be THE BEST THING EVER and i'm just like, no.

My favorite anime gripe from manga fans is when Annie was "sexualized" because in that one scene she had a reddish glow to her face. It's called the difference between something being in color and black-and-white, holy shit! (And I think Isayama even confirmed that he'd been consulted by the animators?)

I think it's a pretty good series, I wouldn't think of it as a desconstruction of shounen, but I was shocked that it is shounen. I know shounen can be bloody but AoT is far past the level I'd expect for anything aimed at non-adults.

I cracked up so hard at this comment, especially because it's true.

While I'm personally enjoying the ride in the meantime, I'm still on the fence as to whether or not we can say that the plot is actually good. Just because we don't actually know /what/ the plot is yet...
