Not genre. Naruto has the same tropes and the same content on screen as it does on page.
That said, I also prefer manga if I have the choice, but that's usually because of the time I can invest in it.

The only SJ anime I've watched was Hikaru no Go, which is almost scarily faithfully adapted. The only time I ever watched Naruto, it was ironically a couple of filler episodes that sounded like fun.

Never watched that one, though I remember reading the manga some when I was in high school. Not bad, but I ended up losing interest after a while.

Hikago is a brilliant comic, and the reason the anime is as faithful as it is is probably because it's probably next to impossible to actually WRITE fillers for a story about a board game.
