Form. Medium.

Not genre. Naruto has the same tropes and the same content on screen as it does on page.

That said, I also prefer manga if I have the choice, but that's usually because of the time I can invest in it.

I used to prefer manga by far, but then life started happening and I just don't have time to sit and read manga much - but I can watch episodes of anime while I eat lunch. So I still watch anime, but don't read manga so much :/

It's kinda the other way around for me. If I really, really love a story, then it's quicker altogether to read ten volumes of manga than it is to watch 40 episodes of anime. Of course, a lot of the time the differences between the anime and the manga will be big enough for the two to not really be comparable anyway, but so it's not a dilemma I'm really faced with a lot.

I also have this thing where I feel like watching a screen is wasting time, but flipping pages somehow isn't - that might have something to do with it, too.

You're right that it takes less time - but it's time that I can't do anything else during... I need to eat anyway, so if I watch while eating I'm not "really" wasting the time, you know? Whereas if I read manga, it means I'm reading that instead of Doing What I Need To Do.

Naruto is a great choice for this secret. Because they put SO MUCH FUCKING FILLER in the show and I just...UGH. Gimme the train wreck of a manga any day. That and I don't have to hear Naruto's horrible dub and sub voices.

I suddenly remember an early filler where Sasuske conveniently recovered from his broken leg in time to be a part of the action... and ended it with his leg broken again so he'd be in the same condition as in the manga storyline.

It didn't help my opinion of him at the time, but now it just makes me laugh. "Sorry, you need to break your leg again. For reasons."

Oh my god what the hell. Well, at least Sasuke ended up with his leg broke twice. Now if only his head was completely broken so I'd never have to look at it again...

Would you know that I paused but just couldn't be bothered trying to think of a non-SJ manga with a similar enough anime version. Fillers can be skipped, anyway, and from the lack of wank about it, I'm guessing that the content of the anime is lifted faithfully enough from the manga.

(also don't diss Takeuchi Junko where I can hear it, she did great and awesome work in Digimon)

For the most part, with Naruto at least. I haven't watched Bleach or One Piece to know how close they are, but yeah. I just hated the fucking filler. UGH.

(i didn't. partly cause i have clue who that is ._.)

but you diiiid, she's Naruto's Japanese VA *g*

The only SJ anime I've watched was Hikaru no Go, which is almost scarily faithfully adapted. The only time I ever watched Naruto, it was ironically a couple of filler episodes that sounded like fun.

Oh, well....I won't apologize for that cause...ick. I've heard her voice in other stuff and she's done better, much better. But as Naruto? Ugh. ._.;;

Never watched that one, though I remember reading the manga some when I was in high school. Not bad, but I ended up losing interest after a while.

Well, I've got the same problem with Edward Elric's voice in English.

Hikago is a brilliant comic, and the reason the anime is as faithful as it is is probably because it's probably next to impossible to actually WRITE fillers for a story about a board game.

[personal profile] otakugal15 2017-03-20 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL. I think everyone has an issue with Ed's voice. But, tbf, I also REALLY don't like that VA either...partly because I can never hear anyone BUT Ed when I hear him in other shows. It's so distracting. D:

I can see that, honestly.
