Christianity's big bucks. How can you not respect him for wanting a piece of that hypocritical pie? /sarcasm

Christianity is associated with violence? I mean, I know it is in some circles, but I don't think most people think of someone like the guy in that pic when they hear the name "Jesus". I'm not understanding what he's supposedly contributing to here.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-19 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm guessing this is wrestling or UFC or something? Gross. but I've always found those shows really gross. (not against MMA or martial arts per se, but the wild violence worship, just yuck)

I am, like, 87% sure that combat *SPORTS* are an exception to The Real True Christianity As Recommended By Jesus's 'be nice and don't hurt people' rule.

Oh good, I'm not the only one. I already didn't like him before, and this only added to that douchiness. As a non-Christian, I especially found it tacky the one time he appeared at Power Morphicon several years ago and was hawking this stuff at his table. I go to things like that to escape having religion shoved down my throat, you know?

For those who don't know, that's Jason David Frank, the original Green/White Power Ranger...and that's about it. He now does MMA and appears at a zillion conventions (and insists that certain other former PR cast can't appear at the same time--I wish I were making that up), but it all still comes back to feeding his massive ego over this one role he still can't let go of. Also, he's kind of an ass to PR fans who don't worship the ground he walks on, and his band of fans are kinda scary in their own right.

I had an ex-friend who pretty much threw money at JDF to meet him at a convention-- and when I went to one of his panels (I am not a power ranger fan, mind you), I got to spend like a good 15 minutes listening to him talk about his 'faith', which in essence was really tacky as that is not what people are there for, they are there to hear the guests talk about the industry. (I probably would of enjoyed the panel better if I didn't have to hear about why 'jesus changed his life')

Same with that anime voice actor, oh Vic Mignogna-- I have heard that his level of douchebaggery approaches JDF levels (if not more so)

(Anonymous) 2017-03-19 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I wonder if Vic Mignogna has gotten any more tolerable. In my FMA days, I was a fan, but got turned off with all the preaching he'd do at cons and his anti-gay stuff. Oh excuse me, he's not anti-gay because he believes God loves everyone. (I hate that condescending crap, rings very much of hate the sin, love the sinner) Also the weird insistence that Edward Elric wasn't actually an atheist. and any character he plays is totally not gay.

Considering, if I recall correctly, he voiced in Ouran Host Club and Free!, I wonder if he's liberaled out even just a little.

I have had a few friends that he had hit on at conventions-- like creepy sort of hitting on, which sort of didn't jive with all of his christian talk, since he was doing things like touching up on them (while they were in cosplay mind you) and other such things, I think that is what got me the most from him.

I haven't heard anything from him anymore-- perhaps he has, but who's to say. I guess I just don't keep up with the voice actor circuit like I used to.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-19 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I knew someone (well, online acquaintance) who was rejected from his booth when she tried to have him sign a very tame Edward/Roy fanart. He normally, as I recall, would sign fanarts and such, but evidently had a "no gay fanart allowed because I'm allowed to believe what I want and we should just respect and love each other :D" policy. Apparently he'd still sign more suggestive het stuff, too. I'd also heard rumors about the creepy hitting-on-girls thing.

I do hear that he has branched out in his actual voice acting and his characters no longer sound all the same, so there's that. I still have zero interest in watching any dub he is a part of, though.

I think I remember hearing about the story of him ejecting someone from his booth because of a m/m centered fanart, I mean I think that if I was an author or a voice actor, I wouldn't mind if people paired my character(s) up with someone of the same sex-- I think I would just be flattered thaet they showed me an interpertation of the character that I would not otherwise thought of.

I remember a friend went to a con and got the voice actress for Leia from Tales of Xillia to call me-- in character, and she started to gush about her and Jude and then I told her that I rather thought she'd be better with Alvin, and what to you know-- she rolled right into it and in character asked me for advice on how to nab Alvin. That's star power right there!

That's disappointing to hear about Mignogna. I'd been enjoying him on Star Trek Continues. Although, I did mention to my husband after the last one we watched that there was a notable lack of chemistry/affection between Kirk and Spock on that show. If he's a homophobe then he could be deliberately blanding their friendship to keep it No Homo. Which is even more depressing. I don't think I'll be able to enjoy it as much now, knowing that. *sigh*

(Anonymous) 2017-03-19 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh my god, that's Jason David Frank? Did not recognize him from the pic at all. I saw him at a convention once and in the brief portion of the panel I watched, he seemed really fun. Kind of mega disappointed by this. (not him being religious, but the "Jesus Didn't Tap" crap and going off on religious crusades in panels).

I also don't think conventions are the time or place to go off about religion. I mean, it's one thing to briefly touch on your faith if it's appropriate to the conversation, but the proselytizing is about as necessary as me waving around a giant dildo. Like good for you, but it's personal and doesn't need to be shoved in the face of others.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-19 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Holy shit, I didn't even recognize him. Wtf.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-19 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Violence and religion have gone together for thousands of years. The Crusades is one easy example.

I don't get this at all. Someone explain?

(Anonymous) 2017-03-19 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Because there was only one person in the bible who Jesus guaranteed a place in heaven to, and that guy was a thief. He just trying to book his place, man.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-19 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Tap what? What does this mean?

(Anonymous) 2017-03-19 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
In MMA (and most combat sports?), tapping means you give up. So like if your opponent is pinning you down on the mat - especially if you're in a headlock or something and can't talk, you tap the mat and the ref will call the round.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-20 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, okay, thanks for the explanation!

(Anonymous) 2017-03-20 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Well...the Bible does say Jesus brings not peace, but the sword.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-20 10:10 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know who this is and didn't know the term tap until this thread, so I assumed the word was fap and this was a very bizarre religious anti masturbation ad trying to be hip with the kids. Glad to have been wrong.

(Anonymous) 2017-03-20 12:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't stop giggling over this.

Jesus didn't tap?

...Now I have this mental image of Jesus tap-dancing.
