I absolutely love VI as well, its my favourite Final Fantasy. And as much as I like it as it is, I wish there could be a modern remake instead of VII... be it only for it to get more recognition.

I agree-- I mean we got a sort of re-port but that was nowhere near a remake.

I mean, the pixel art is adorable and it won't stop the plot from being great but done right, it could be gorgeous as a modern remake.

I love VI but IDK if I need a modern remake but I also love old pixel games.

I mainly wanted a VII remake because that's when 3d was at it's absolute worst so the game, while fun, was ugly as all hell. I'm also looking forward to the remake but a bit worried they might change too much and I won't like the gameplay.

I keep having the problem that a lot of people I rec the game to go "ugh no, I can't stand old pixel graphics" and that's so sad because it really love it.

The VII remake gameplay will be very similar to XV I think (a lot of things in XV seem like test runs for VII tbh, it's kinda hilarious). Which is very different from the original gameplay, but I also think something similar to the old gameplay wouldn't really work in the remake anymore.

I don't get that at all. Pixel graphics are so much fun! And for me it's a lot better then looking at poorly done 3d. IDK why people can't use their imagination like we used to do before video games were capable of big graphics.

And yeah, I'm hesitant because I like old school gameplay for final fantasy games. I haven't been keeping up with recent games because I just want my turn based system (last game I really truly enjoyed was X) or if you're going to update it then just give me full control like Kingdom Hearts or something.

Pixel art can be great, but between the pixel art, lacking voice acting and slower pace than most current games, a lot of people have simply gotten too used to modern games (though there are plenty indie games with pixel graphics that get quite a lot of positive feedback, so it's not a universal thing, I guess.)

I actually found the gameplay of XV to be a bit like Kingdom Hearts, to be honest. So that might be something you don't completely hate?

I guess I just have to grumble in my old person corner because I play modern games and I can still replay pixel games and find them enjoyable. Kids need to give old games a chance, some old games have better gameplay then modern ones.

And I hope I'll like it! I was hesitant to pick up XV after all the controversy so I have no clue what the gameplay is like.

You could always try the demo version first! It should be still available in the PlayStation store (though I'm not sure if the demo version is the same in every country).

That's strange since pixel art games are seeing a huge resurgence.

I know, it is kind of strange. Maybe it's a mix of pixel art, pacing and the fact that it's an "old game", not a new one? Idek.

OP here. Why "instead of" rather than "in addition to"? Both are good games.

And I think 6 would suffer from having the realistic graphics of the 7 remake. But I would love a voice cast.

True, but I somehow doubt they would do another remake for a game that's not nearly as popular and financially successful as VII so that's mostly why I wrote "instead". I'm mostly a bit burnt out on VII related stuff, good game as it may be.
I think realistic graphics could work surprisingly well for VI. Not sure if you've watched the XV Kingsglaive movie, but Ultros was pretty damn terrifying in that, for example. Some designs might have to be updated a little, but I think it could be pretty neat.

(Anonymous) 2017-05-13 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't know Ultros was in that! I know he was in 13-2 though (and come on Derek Steven Prince I know you can give a better performance than that).

Part of the charm of 6's visuals comes from the roughness of the graphics. Not just the sprite base but the overall...Oh, I don't know how to describe it other than "roughness".

He was one of the main random monsters that were released during the end battle. I actually had to look twice and then went "waitaminute is that...?" He didn't speak, sadly, it was mostly a short cameo, but the design was plenty creepy.

I do think I know what you mean, but, while very different in style, I still believe a realistic take on it could look great. Would be a pretty different experience though, I agree with that. I think a realistic version would be much, much darker, actually. The ghost-train scenes alone, if played straight, could be pretty creepy.

I imagine they meant because of finite resources; SE probably wouldn't have the bandwidth to devote teams to two simultaneous massive remake projects at once, so if they ever start on an FF6 remake , it wouldn't be until the FF7 was done, and probably not until it was proven to have ended up profitable for SE (so it might never happen if the FF7 remake somehow doesn't sell enough to make up for the expense).

So they meant they wished SE did FF6 first as a guaranteed remake project instead of FF7. :P

Whoops, beaten by the actual poster; my bad!

This is what makes me happy to be a fan-- and yes, I love the game too-- definitely one of my favorite games; it is that, Chrono Trigger and Xenogears which are my top three.

(Anonymous) 2017-05-13 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't really know why this is a secret, but yeah, FF6 is the best of the series I think. I think it's so perfect actually that I have no desire for a remake. Squeenix as it is now would kill all the charm and character that helped make the original so likeable.

(Anonymous) 2017-05-14 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
This is a really sweet secret, OP!

(Anonymous) 2017-05-14 11:38 am (UTC)(link)
FF6 is my favorite too!
I was so overjoyed when the FF Anniversary finally got Squeenix to make a Setzer keychain for sale.

I didn't really care for the character redesign of Terra when she got put in Dissidia, but I like how Setzer turned out for the franchise in Opera Omnia--and Opera Omnia's renders of the Magitek armor is SO BADASS I looove it.

It's basically the game that no matter what anyone ever says about it, I will love it forever, so it's great to see someone else being positive about it (without comparing it to other games in the franchise as better or worse).

(Anonymous) 2017-05-14 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
What is Opera Omnia? I looked it up and couldn't find any relevant results.

(Anonymous) 2017-05-16 12:45 pm (UTC)(link)
It's the fairly new mobile game that serves as an expansion of the Dissidia universe, but with a lot more characters added in. (It's only been around for a few months, but we already have Setzer, Rem, Ace, Ramza and a bunch of others as playable characters.)
I think it's region-locked to Japan, though, unfortunately. I was just overjoyed to get to play it because its going back to the turn-based system and not doing the Spinny Camera Thing means that I can actually play it without it triggering my motion sickness.

Here is the official site!
If you go to the "Special" section they have the promo movie.
