(Anonymous) 2017-09-08 12:42 am (UTC)(link)I mean, reader insert is just very anathema to what fanfic is about for me. It feels very...intrusive, to me, if that makes sense. Like, I love these characters and their story and their world, and none of that is about me or "my" world - nor is it really even compatible with me and my world.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-08 01:33 am (UTC)(link)1) I feel like I'm being given a front-row seat in someone else's fantasy, which is true of most fic, of course, but reader-insert just takes away all pretence, and that just makes me feel uncomfortable, and
2) I can't get past the fact that the "reader character" just isn't thinking and acting the way I would - which also makes me uncomfortable because I'm being asked to project myself into a character beyond what one normally experiences identifying with characters whike reading, and it's weird trying to inhabit someone who feels so wrong.
