According to Wikipedia: Astaire's will included a clause requesting that no such portrayal ever take place; he commented, "It is there because I have no particular desire to have my life misinterpreted, which it would be."

Not surprised tbh. I read both their biographies and Ginger Rogers was a ton more forthcoming on just about everything.

I doubt it would be legally enforceable, but you wouldn't get much co-operation from anyone holding copyright to his filmography.

I'd imagine it would get much of the same response that Wired (the ill-informed John Belushi """"biopic"""") did with tons of blacklisting.

...although perhaps not; there aren't a ton of active/alive Hollywood players today both on and behind the cameras who knew Astaire well enough to put their foot down if one were made.
