Also, most of the fandoms I have the strongest opinions about are pretty much dead, so they never get secrets anymore (and on the rare occasion they do, hardly anyone comments). I'm not really obsessed with anything current, so I feel like I'm missing out on most of the secrets.

I have the same problem. Although for me it's also that I tend to get into things REALLY late. Some of my newer interests predate internet fandom. Yeah.
