Yes, and admittedly, it does redeem him, but the endless whining throughout the first 80% of the series still pissed me off. By the end of the series, I think he's a nice guy, and it's pretty obvious why he actually has a gang that's loyal to him, but still. It takes a while for the annoyance of listening to his crying to wear off.

Maybe I just need to give it more time.
