I believe it as well. Korra and Asami certainly have better rapport/chemistry and their relationship has more development than 90% of the romantic relationships in ATLA or LOK, so...

The downside is, if it actually becomes canon, it'll be so heavy-handed and forced-romantic that I might wish they'd just left me to imagine it my head, if the past writing of romantic relationships on these shows is any indication.
