I'll have to ask which sermon it is specifically but... a man has a child whose blood has the magical cure for a disease which has been ravaging the people. The only way to get the cure is to drain all of the blood, and the child will die.

The message is that god is better than man because the man can't bring himself to sacrifice his son, but god did.

This pissed me off to no end, because this just isn't how it would work in reality. The "we need her entire brain" thing has no medical basis whatsoever. I couldn't get over it at the time, then I learned it was a bible ripoff and it made me even less happy.

YEP.

Hmmm.

I headcanon a certain Transformers character as being blind. I have a mental disability myself. I don't headcanon him that way because of representation, I just thought it was a cool "what if?" idea and ran with it. I'm pretty sure someone somewhere will yell that I'm doing it wrong, but I don't care. LOL

I agree with other posters who say liking a character who isn't a straight white man doesn't make anyone super special or anything.

Why DOES it matter what people like in fandom? Not everyone is into my headcanons and I really don't care. I write them because I enjoy it and those who like it keep coming back to read more. It's no skin off my back if someone hates my ideas. It used to be, till I did some growing up and getting over myself. Haters gonna hate, after all.

When will people separate insults to what they like from insults directly aimed at them? I think that's the main problem. "You're a piece of shit!" is very different from "Transformers is shit!" But the line is crossed if someone said to my face, "You're a piece of shit for liking Transformers." Cue me eyerolling and walking away while thinking that person is rude. :)

I always shake my head if I see someone say "everyone who likes X is a shitty person!" or whathaveyou, because I know those are the troll hooks being thrown out to attract wank. Trolls who say that probably don't know each individual personally, so you have no need to defend yourself against them. But people take it personally and fire insults back, and before you know it the mess turns into a wanknado. What a shame.

Imma take my headcanons and go play now. Buh bye!

She is the best! But she is never happy about getting her picture taken, no matter how hard I try:

and yes I am like one of those mothers that will show you a lot of pictures, except it isn't a baby it is a very unphotogenic cat...

Yeah, I can see it. I'm just squicked by infidelity so I have issues because of Katrina and Ichabod being married. But I'd love a redemption arc for him.

The semes? Not the Ukes? Really?

Whales. I fucking love whales.

Except for orcas. They scare me. ;-;

DA. Racebending and headcanons don't make a canon anything like that. OP seems to be complaining about the people who go "x character is canonly trans BECAUSE I SAY SO" which usually boils down to "x character is trans because cis ppl are GROSS u transphobe THEY'RE TRANS DEAL WITH IT."

I think my biggest issue is that there is media out there with trans, POC, and anon queer characters. But it's often indie and people let it remain small scale because they're too busy trying to put Dean Winchester as a trans WOC and then claim that Supernatural is progressive because they said so.

Meanwhile, Korra had a canon bisexual POC protagonist and Welcome to Night Vale has a canon m/m interacial pair (and a few canon trans people!) Marvel has a couple canon m/m and f/f pairs among plenty of other canons they could get that without whining about headcanons. They wouldn't have to bring their diversity; it would already be there.

Well, to begin with, a few historical notes: pogroms would have been done by the Russian Ortyodox Church, not the Catholics, being as the word is Russian. And it is extremely dubious to say that Pius XII completely supported Hitler (or for that matter that Hitler was a good Catholic), although there's certainly a strong case to be made that he failed to protest against Hitler seriously enough (which is shameful in itself of course).

Passing on from that... I would strongly, strongly argue that modern (ie, 19th century and after) anti-semitism was categorically distinct from earlier antisemitism. The idea that it can all just be written off as "Christians hate Jews" does not seem to me to match up to the actual development of antisemitism particularly in terms of its rigid ideological and conspiratorial character. The things are distinctly modern. So the idea that these things are of a continuity I consider wrong, and likewise the idea that anti-semitism is a discrete term because of some general historical and even natural evil of Christian society.

And if Katrina and Ichabod happen to get divorced, I'd be cool with that.

Fun bonus fact #2: The most rabidly anti-Semitic modern-day Christians are Zionist Evangelicals. Yes, the "plant a tree for Israel" people. Why, you ask, how can they be anti-Semitic, when they blather on about how much they loooooooooooove Israel and the Holy Land, and they give to soooooo many charities in Israel?

I am going to tell you a little secret about Zionist Evangelical "theology":

They only want the Jews around to build the Third Temple. Remember the bit with the pyramids, in the land of Egypt? Like that, only with more people and for even less pay.

After the Third Temple goes up, and the Apocalypse gets fully underway, however, the Evangelicals will have no more use for the Jewish people, and then will kick off a pogrom that's gonna make the Holocaust look like a hangnail.

A large part of me is just surprised. Seriously, who looks at what someone else is reading and thinks: "I'm gonna judge that. That is something for me to judge."

I mean, decide if you like it or not. Decide if it's something for you to read. Just don't presume to tell me what I should or should not read.

Re: Bleaching your hair white

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2015-01-01 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
You really do need a white dye or a toner to get white hair. The bleach itself isn't going to take you all the way, but there are a number of commercial dyes that will work over bleached hair to get it white.

I have thin hair, but just using a washout rinse on mine got the lightest parts pure white for a cosplay.

You are always welcome at my flat! You can meet my cat and see the city of the winter olympics '94!

Yeah it seems pretty anti-climatic when I have seen it on TV, but when you are allowed to drink I think it will be more fun? The atmosphere or something? I don't particularly enjoy loud sounds and big crowds, but for those who do I am sure it is a lot of fun!

We must protect the existence of the semes and secure a future for seme culture

okay that might be a little too dark for fs

(Anonymous) 2015-01-01 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
The Holocaust refers to everyone who was killed in it. The Jews got special attention. Besides being anti-semitic, the Nazis were also homophobic, ableist and anti-Roma. They also killed anyone who tried to stop them from killing all those other people.

Also, what that other guy in the subthread mentioned about pogroms. Honestly, I wish the Holocaust wasn't the go-to thing when it comes to anti-semitism because now people act like murdering Jews en masse was a bizarre and unprecedented event.

Probably nothing. My friends and I used to have a party every year but I moved.

Oh, so you're saying that the ending was inspired by that sermon? I'd sooner think it was just a coincidence though-- Joel screws over humanity because the writers couldn't bother to research how medical experimentation works/disregarded it for the sake of drama, is in line with all the clichés they'd been spewing before.
