I think you missed the point there - it's not about whether Joni Mitchell is cool or not, it's about a child basing his life on what he thinks will make his depressed mother happy, and that's not healthy for the kid. The bit you quote is important because he's finally secure enough to disagree.

When I first saw the Birdcage as a kid (well, eleven/twelve year old), I completely missed the point of Nathan Lane's character's son saying he was his real mother. I found it cheesy and didn't understand what was wrong with his actual birth mother. I completely missed that it was supposed to be a poignant moment.

Can't be bothered to make because it's not really a secret and other people have made this secret before: The Last Of Us wasn't a good game. It was cheap, lazy writing with terrible gameplay. I went through it calling every plot "twist" before it happened.

Also my partner informs me that the ending was just completely ripped off from an old sermon that's supposed to be about how glorious the sky fairy is for letting his only son die to save us all (because no human father could do the same). That only made me actively dislike it instead of being disappointed with it.

I just watched Under the Skin. I am still confused about 60% of the plot. I need to give it another watch with subtitles so I can understand what the hell all those Scottish people are saying.

Pretty good movie though. Nice imagery and great music.

My favorite Beatles song when I was four (my parents were huge hippies) was Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds.

Yep. All about drug experimentation.

It's still my favorite Beatles song today, and may have subtly informed some life choices.

Eating pizza and being antisocial. I was already almost hit by a car once today. Ain't no way I'm going back out there. This is my least favorite holiday.

Next year however, I've decided I'll do something cool for New Year's Eve. I'm thinking I can save up for a trip somewhere and get my party on then. Suggestions are welcome.

It's not so much one specific discovery but I somehow ended up watching a bunch of old commercials on Youtube featuring actors when they were just starting out/were not famous yet. A few times, I was like: "Holy shit, I remember that commercial! So-and-so was in that!??"

Now that they're famous enough to be recognized, it's kind of fun to re-discover where I might have first seen them.
