I do wonder whether that, and other similar things, could be the cause of some people not turning up. But as no one (as far as I know) has said that while signed in, I don't want to put words in anyone's mouth.

And, yeah, I don't think it's even a polite way of saying it. I think that's just what it explicitly means. Which is fine.
