A novice is someone training to be a master. A master is someone who knows he will always be a novice.
I struggle with the same thing in theater. With my normal acting troops, I'm advanced, but outside of it I still have a long, long way to go. A lot of the time, I try to stay in my bubble where I am looked up to, but that is no way to grow and develop yourself. It will be scary at first, but it's worth it. :)
