Some fanfics are definitely better than some actual books. This is the only statement I've ever seen reblogged, and it's true.
Taken as a whole, fanfics aren't usually better. But some are.
I've never seen anyone claim that EVERY fanfic is better than EVERY book. That would be ridiculous. But it's not what they're saying.
