It just seems like cherry picking tbh. You can find hypocrites in every movement, but it doesn't make it a trend within the movement.
There have always been people in fandom who say that they prefer (white) male characters over characters of color and female characters by claiming that they just can't possibly like characters that were so badly or stereotypically written; this is simply the current iteration of that. That that group sometimes intersects with the group that's genuinely concerned about how POC and women are being portrayed doesn't necessarily reflect on either group. Contrary to what SJWs circa 2011 liked to chant, intent and context do matter.
