very few actors could do that.

Hugh Laurie wasn't in Harry Potter.

The only thing I would add, I agree with you, but have you mentioned in the authors notes that you have written more but didn't post due to lack of response? Just in case there are people waiting for it to be updated?

It's all really, really insidious and horrible. There's nothing wrong with tagging appropriately, putting porn where kids won't find it, taking steps to make sure things are in their place. The problem is where the anti-porn people feel they're on some sort of crusade to maintain superiority over the porn people, have decided that "if you draw porn of a kid's show you are irredeemable trash and I will doxx you" is the hill they want to die on.

I hate the whole 'think of the children' aspect aimed towards a fandom made up predominantly of women. Women, don't forget its your ultimate aim to have children! And think of children! And look after children! Don't want to have children? Too bad, you still have to make your fandom experience centered around them anyway! I wish the anti-porn people could hear themselves.

That's the one! For some reason I was thinking he was the cat in The Rescuers.

Pretty much. I mean, I was reading adultish fic at age 12. I read a really smutty novel at one point that made me slightly uncomfortable, but I didn't fucking FREAK over it. I just finished it, put it down, and didn't read another one until I was a bit older.

So...this kind of shit just pisses me off. But, they are a product of a slightly younger parent generation that is getting increasingly more and more "MY ANGEL IS A DELICATE SNOWFLAKE AND ONLY I KNOW BEST" which completely ignores their children and how said children THEMSELVES may react.

Kids can be really freakin' resilient and can handle things, of varying degrees (this is where knowing your kid comes in), pretty well.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-25 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
It's mediocre.

I'm hugely interested in the Revolutionary War and I feel that a lot of the plot is lacking (they keep forcing in love stories that didn't exist!)

In this case I actually didn't. The only people who exhibited interest in the fic were a few friends, so I just sent them copies.
Nobody else has exhibited interest in the fic, and it basically faded into obscurity. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to put a note up, though. I just kind of got depressed and walked away from it, I'll admit.

So far my plan had been that if I do actually succeed in completing the fic, I'll post the rest of it for completion's sake, and because lack of attention would no longer kill the muse.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-25 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
The Ordinary Princess was the best book ever. I need to visit the library and borrow it again (or maybe buy my own copy).

(Anonymous) 2015-05-25 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I was just thinking that Lady Tremaine was pretty elegant and not exactly hard on the eyes, sort of a "faded diva" look. And in other Disney movies, Queen Grimhilde from Snow White and Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty were both knockout gorgeous when they weren't shapeshifting.

Yes, even in Disney, evil can be glamorous.

It was someone going around to every single really shitty post -- everything from homophobia to racism to telling someone to get raped -- and saying "hi dethtoll" as if it was me posting anonymously.

Then it just kinda turned into people posting "hi dethtoll" at, well, MY posts.

How about this?

So this is going to sound so stereotypical, but season two/Doomsday. And to this day I don't know if it was the sheer power of episode itself or my unique situation in life when I watched it or some weird cocktail combo of the two. And I'll try not to get too TL;DR cause it feels like I'm always rambling this story, but yeah. Started watching DW in 2008. I'd just graduated high school and moved to a college out of state. AKA no friends, family, or familiar stuff. And then to pile on top of that, my main fandom had been ATLA. Like HARDCORE obsessed ATLA. And then that had just ended in the summer. And then fandom pretty much slumped off 80% right after. So no friends/family/fandom/everything.

And then Doctor Who came along. I marathoned the entire first two seasons in my first week of college and I projected myself onto Rose as the listless outcast so soooo much. Like probably unhealthy much. Actually... like "watched Doomsday at 2am Monday morning and then not being able to sleep and then stumbling into my 8am Algebra class like a zombie" unhealthy much.

But yeah.

I think Donna's departure would've hit me a lot harder if I still hadn't been in shock from that. Season four had just wrapped up about a month before I got into the series, so I caught up fairly quickly. I think Journey's End just left me going "...what" when I watched it. I didn't know how to feel.

As for Amy/Rory's departure, I just felt that there were too many fakeouts and also loopholes to feel sad? There was old!Rory's death in the bed and then their suicidal jump and then FINALLY the angel in the graveyard. Oh, and then the whole thing with the book and the tombstones and taking everything written as a fact/it had to happen... like River could've lied about some passages. Amy and Rory could've bought a tombstone and put their names on it. They could've taken a ferry over to England and then signaled through history for the Doctor to pick them up over there.

That and it wasn't like Rose and Donna where the former had sworn to spend the rest of their lives traveling. Where they wanted and loved being the Doctor's companion first and foremost. Amy and Rory had each other. Had jobs. Had a life. They were slowly weaning him out of their lives, so IDK. All of it's fiction, but I feel Rose and Donna HAD to be written out whereas Amy and Rory could've easily gone down the same path as Martha. Hell, they could've ended the Pond's story with the Doctor showing up for Christmas and that would be great. Amy and Rory living together and occasionally having the Doctor around for the holidays.

But Moffat loves ~drama~ so... yeah. And I guess also the reason I wasn't sad by them is that in the end they do have each other. They ended up adopting a kid and Amy got into writing and it wasn't like Donna losing her very identity. It was all about the Doctor's pain and him being petulant about it and begging Amy not to follow her husband. And also Rory's dad! Like I know they storyboarded out a scene that they ultimately cut with their adopted son giving Brian a letter and Arthur Davill recorded the dialogue but holy hell show. THAT IS THE IMPORTANT EMOTIONAL MOMENT AND YOU CUT IT?!?!?!?

But then to play devil's advocate, RTD also loves drama and there was nothing saying Donna had to go out that way. And I've met people who were totally meh on Rose and Doomsday but sobbed over Amy and Rory, so... yeah.

~fiction is subjective~

And back to Daredevil (sorry i have a lot of doctor who feelings that i dont talk too much about anymore because its just a rehash but theyre still there simmering), yes! Karen!

I just got to the episodes where Fisk blew up a bunch of the Russian stuff and framed Matt, and Foggy and even Urich want to punch him in the face and denounce him as evil. But blessed Karen is like "ummm... nope things don't quite line up here." I don't know if I like her and Foggy as a couple though. Friends definitely.

I think I might crackship her and Wesley... although I think I've already accidentally spoiled myself for what happens to Wesley. IT'S OKAY. I CAN LIVE IN PLEASANT DENIAL.

And definitely re: villains. I can't remember the last time - if ever - there's been a Marvel or DC villain with a love interest. And one that's not all immediately "ooh i'm evil and sexy. let's be evil and sexy together." If there's ever anything, it's a female villain falling for the hero. As soon as I saw his name in the credits, I was like "the law and order guy???" but he really makes him work.

He IS about so much more than bent spoons! He's about fraud, nuisance lawsuits, and really bad parlor magic.

(But if you're the FS!saving poster...hats off to you, because this is a weird one.)

I wish he was. He would have made a good Snape, I think.

I don't watch, but my husband was counting down the minutes till it came on streaming last night and he's not usually like that with shows. He really loves it.

looks-wise, I can't see him as Snape at all but yeah, acting-wise I think he would have done a good job

I used to feel that way too, and then I realized that I shouldn't let someone else (like Disney) dictate how I should feel about my appearance or what I'm good at and whatnot, and to love and embrace myself the way I am (evil and all). Just because you don't fit a certain stereotype doesn't make you a bad person, it just makes you different and that's okay.

Me too, OP. It doesn't help that my brother watches it and then we talk about it. orz Help me, Obi Wan Kenobi.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-25 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sorry your parents did that to you as a child, but don't you think that maybe your reaction to this is yours to manage? Other people aren't trying to raise your hopes because they're malicious or trying to fool you, and you appear to know this. So why do you want other people to alter their fairly innocuous behavior (that isn't negative or directed at you whatsoever) just so you can avoid the bad associations?

(Anonymous) 2015-05-25 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
This. Most of the time I enjoy interaction with readers because they're fellow fans. When that interaction turns pushy and demanding, I no longer enjoy it and not wanting to hang out with fellow fans makes me less enthusiastic about finishing my WIP. Mind you, I'm not doing it on purpose to deprive them, it's just not a whole lot of fun to write stories for people who don't believe you have a right to life your life the way you want.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-25 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
This. I don't know why people want to harsh the OP's squee here.

Doomsday is a hard episode for a lot of people, even ones who don't identify with Rose as much, so I won't judge you for that! Everyone has their favorites. (Totally understand you turning to fandom to fill a void in your RL.) Marathoning a show is in some ways great, in others kind of disappointing because you don't get the same level of build-up and anticipation that people who have been waiting for the next episode experience. There is something to the instant gratification, won't lie about that, but in some ways I enjoy watching episode to episode more. Certain things, like Donna's fate, just seem a lot more...dramatic that way, I suppose. (Donna devastated me, jfc. Poor Donna, she deserved so much better.)

As someone who both really enjoyed Amy and Rory, I also found the Ponds story to be drawn out a little too long. However, that deleted scene was fantastic and I'm with you in not understanding why it wasn't included.

I like that Karen never suspects Daredevil of being a bad guy, even when Foggy (his best friend) does. It's kind of sweet and entertaining. (Of course he DID save her, so she has more reason to feel that way than the others, but...yea.) As for shipping, I was pretty into the thought of Foggy and Karen until...something, then I decided I wasn't going to ship Karen with anyone currently in the show. lmao. (I love her! Just...not with Matt or Foggy.) She's got an adorable friendship with Foggy and Matt though, and I hope season two includes more of the three just hanging out, being buds.

If only I could live in pleasant denial...

Haha, yes. I've never been a massive fan of Law and Order, but I did like the show when he was on it more than any other time/version. He was always compelling. (And cute!) As Fisk he scares the shit out of me because of how imposing he looks, and because of that barely contained rage, but that presence works for him. And it's nice to see the difference in him when he's with Wesley or Vanessa; it's cool to see a villain who isn't hateful/abusive/indifferent to the people closest to him, so he doesn't always seem like a total monster, yet you still very much realize he's a terrible person.
