Well, I'm above 30, I'm Singaporean and a University Graduate, and I work in the entertainment industry before I went on to publishing where I've been for the past 5-6 years, and I am still very much a fan of anime before it even became a big deal in Singapore (VHS trading days FTW baby!). So high five there!
Frankly, stereotyping is just one of the kinks of fandom (and likely very bored and lonely kids who need attention) you have to live and deal with, but it's pretty much a numbers/statistic game rather than anything else. The more fans a fandom has, the chances of a retarded obnoxious one surfacing becomes higher, y/n? But I'm glad to say none of my peers have given me flak for my interest in this genre (even though my closer friends are all not anime fans), but they've known me since I was 14, so they know what I like and I know what they like... besides, if all else fails I could always use their rabid fangirling antics of other fandoms in high/secondary school that I wasn't nearly as interested in as leverage, muahahaha... *ahem* just kidding. ;)
I suppose I can have discussions on other more perceived 'sophisticated subject matters' in other forums, but I come to anime forums to talk about anime. I'm usually slightly brain-dead after a day's work, so I'd like me something that doesn't require too much stimulation of the grey matter. (I'm old, I’ve gone through the 50 page reading assignments, I’ve paid my dues, I swear! )
And 66, there are more intelligent Singaporean anime fans out there than you think there is, they just don't care to lurk in forums as much because… um, well… they are intelligent enough to stay away from them? lol (sorry, it was a throwaway question I couldn't resist) But seriously, don't be too quick to stereotype the fans in SG based on the small crowd you are/have been acquainted with, you just need to look a wee bit harder and be smarter about where to find these lovely and quirky people.
I must say, though, if you are basing your knowledge of bisexual gays and the like on the stereo of American/Japanese pop culture that we're flooded with you might be disappointed with the real deal. Just as there are those brilliant, smart and quirky ones I’ve met in the course of my occupation, the obnoxious ones do exist as well. Just saying they are as much human as straight people are.
Hey 59 & 66~ prepare for TL; DR reply doooom... XD

But hey, humans is as human does no? :)
