Circus Mirandus reminded me a lot of the book/movie "Big Fish" so if you read it and enjoy the book, check that one out. Big Fish is more general fiction than a specific age range.

Shame you said films, as Thunderbirds Are Go (And the original Thunderbirds) is basically Magical Boys: The Series.

Completely agreed on this. Even if I agree with their complaint, if they're expressing it in an obnoxious manner, I'm just going to want them to shut up and go away more than anything else at that point.

How do you even boycott dead writers? It's not like they're getting the money? Are you just not reading the books then?

NAYRT

IDK if its gauche, but I've never seen anyone capitalize bell hooks, and have seen quite a few people get bitched out for capitalizing e e cummings.

Though I did once get yelled at on a forum for not capitalizing people's screen-names when referring to them, because, and I quote, "You are not e e cummings."

I feel your pain, OP. I like historical fiction, but I don't really like historical romance that's basically a romance novel with a few corsets thrown in. It's hard to find the happy medium between the Duke of Whatever's sex life vs. some extremely dry literary novel about a historical figure.

I actually made a hate secret about him once too. I don't really think he's that much of a dick, though. He certainly wasn't my favorite character, but I didn't think the character of Marcus was a bad guy or too terribly annoying.

Don't worry. Alton Towers is the perfect balance.

Good things:
It's almost Thanksgiving (and then Christmas) so I get a few days off work and I'm spending them with family.
Going to see the Star Wars Costume exhibit in NYC with a friend, SO EXCITED FOR THIS!!!

Bad things:
My stomach has decided it hates me lately and I go from not going to the bathroom enough to having to go all the time. I haven't changed m diet significantly so no clue, other than I'm back to bland foods for a week until I resolve it. I WANT YUMMY FOODS!

This is amazing. Our trolls used to be so much better.

Shame (not a typo) didn't even wait for Rick to die before he had sex with Laurie. No way would Rick want to touch that assface. You might as well ship Glen and The Well Walker from Hershel's farm.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-20 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah.

Reminds me of the "you have to like it because canon" people/ Even on a pairing I liked, I hated those people and wanted them to go the fuck away.

Especially if they're stating something I would normally agree with in an obnoxious, exaggerated manner.

Re: Sports manga

[personal profile] ketita 2015-11-20 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm... ok, it's a little different, but worth suggesting: Chihayafuru.
It's got the classic sports manga format, but it's about the game Karuta, which seems like it would be silly but really isn't. The characterization is amazing, the characters are sweet and loveable, and it's actually got a female lead and a co-ed team, and it works really well. One of the advantages of having it be a less physical game is that it can be more equal-opportunity. Also the art is very pretty.

Bad; no job, depressed, job search making me more depressed, money becoming an issue.

Good: I'm writing again, and my bf is being a sweetheart and helping me out with my problems a lot.

I know this one's an old one, but I recommend Hajime no Ippo. A fairly realistic boxing manga. I actually liked it a lot and since you like the more realistic ones it'd be a good one for you.

AYRT - Historical mysteries could be fun!

And honestly, I'm pretty adaptable in terms of time period. Although I think pop culture has exhausted me with regards to the 60's and 70's.

Tumblr is full of idiots whose need to feel special and important ruin everything they touch including fandom.

Gah Netflix and chill!!! I hate what that phrase has come to mean (mostly because my friends used to say it'd be a Netflix and chill day, where that's what we'd do on a Saturday afternoon, you know, watch Netflix, drink, and relax) and now it's super overused and I can't say it with how I used to use it.

Star Wars, because it seems to be pretty unique.

AYRT - Yeah. I tried a few that started out really interesting, and they were about fictional characters, but they got political. I understand you need some politics, obviously, but... I didn't like how. As a counter example, I read a really great family saga that covered the revolutionary war (among others), and even though yeah, you have a guy debating whether or not to fight against the British, it brings it down to a very personal level, as opposed to "Joe Shit the Ragman's son fought the British tl;dr..."
