For a second I thought "Shame" was a new portmanteau.

I call them Daesh because I'm sick of people confusing one of my favorite bands for a bunch of terrorists.

Thiiiiiis. Honestly, the older I get and the more I learn, the more Jefferson is the Founding Father who holds up the worst. Other than, of course, his freeing the people Adams imprisoned for bullshit sedition. See? I can't even make one unqualified statement.

I just wish people would tag nsfw stuff NSFW.

I follow someone who posts really pretty stuff, but I can tell when she's on because suddenly my dash turns into a collection of het porn and Drake.

There's a browser app called Tumblr Savior. XKit has a similiar feature too, but I've found that Savior is easier for tag blocking specifically.

There's also the fact that moe's appeal is that the girls are cute, young, and helpless, which doesn't seem to be the case here? Anyways, I don't think it matters what you enjoy as long as you don't let it effect your values/seep into real life. Have fun, OP!

I had a similar problem once. I blacklisted the person's username, then whitelisted the stuff I was interested in. In my case it was stuff about specific characters/their ship. Maybe that could work for you?

Well, that scene you picked for your secret is pretty much the closest they are in the entire show. As unexpectedly moving as it was. But after that it's all "kill them bitches" and [SPOILER] attempted murder and shoving a knife through your partner's heart in response is never very romantic?

(Anonymous) 2015-11-20 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Funny how this specific style of post, always anon and always in conflict with a similarly-styled opponent who's also anon, ONLY shows up when IP logging is off, huh? Real big fuckin' mystery.

I've recommended these before, but at the risk of being a bore, Barbara Hambly's Free Man of Colour series, set in New Orleans in the 1830s. It has complicated family relationships, friendships, history, musicians doing their thing, and lots of atmosphere.

AYRT

Thank you! City of Crime looks great, and No Man's Land has been on my to-read list for a while... I should get on that.

Ahahaha, Gotham After Midnight. That's the one that's a rip-off of Hush, but with an even more nonsensical plotline, isn't it? Even putting aside the blatant plagiarism, holy shit Kelley Jones is terrible. IDK how that man is still getting work in comics.

Hmm, this may not be 100% what you're looking for, but maybe it's worth checking out the Humanity Fuck Yeah reddit? There are some pretty fun stories there, and while the general theme is humanity being the badasses of the galaxy, that tends to go along with faceless monster bugs pretty well.

Barbra Gordon. Which confuses me because on paper I should love her, she's a nerdy girl that kicks ass, but every single version of her annoys the crap out of me.

Sorry Babs. :(

Tony from NCIS, my boyfriend can't actually watch it in the same room as me because I dislike him so much.

And Will Ferrel, nothing personal against the dude at all but aside from maybe two roles I typically can't stand his characters(or movies he's in).

Same here. And the non-obnoxious shippers who DO try and tell everyone to calm down just get drowned out in the end a lot of the time, unfortunately.

I just find it weird that people actually get annoyed when they find out a fandom has shippers. It's cool if romance and shipping isn't one's thing, but...yeah, newsflash, some people are going to ship. Some people do like romance stories. That's been a thing for as long as fandom, and stories in general, have been around. The amount of shippers, or the vocal nature of them, might be a little overwhelming, sure, especially depending on the fandom. But it's exactly not like what they're doing is a new fad or anything, so I don't get why people still seem surprised/annoyed to see that shippers are running around in their fandoms.

His views, I think, had much to recommend them. His rhetoric was incredible - one of the great writers about liberty. His conduct was absolutely despicable.

I've just started watching the anime of Diamond no Ace. I've never watched any other sports anime before, but it is pretty damn entertaining. It's a lot goofier than most of other anime shows I've watched in the past. So far I'm way more interested in a supporting character (Miyuki, the catcher) than the actual protagonist.

I kinda wish it was still considered common courtesy to put porn behind readmore cuts. It's kinda unnecessary to see suddenly, if I'm not actually looking for it, and sometimes it's stuff I don't really wanna see at all. Or randomly run across while someone happens to look over my shoulder.

ISIS or IS, I'd not heard Daesh until now.

Oh, and I may have mentioned these before, but Sigrid Unset's novels set in medieval Norway. There's a new translation of Kristin Lavransdatter that's far less clotted with archaisms than the 1927 one I read, there's her massive The Master of Hestviken, and there's the much shorter Gunnar's Daughter.

Also Zoe Oldenbourg's books--The Heirs of the Kingdom. The World is Not Enough, The Cornerstone and Destiny of Fire--set in medieval France.

I think Firth was the best Darcy ever, with Olivier being my second favorite. But it wasn't just about the Darcys, but about the Lizzys as well. I adored Ehle. And Greer Garson. Here she is facing off against Lady Catherine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLv2F6bNunQ
