To me, Matthew MacFadyen's Darcy seemed like he was mostly shy and hid behind his courtesy, and the younger Bennets made him cringe in embarrassment with their gauche behavior, so he acted stiffly uncomfortable because of that, not because he was a snob who couldn't bear interacting with his lessers.>

This exactly. It's such a subtle, complex take on his characterization, and I love it.

Idk I feel like the level of hate I have towards him is pretty irrational, he's annoying but man I need to chill(BUT HE MAKES IT SO HARD).

Abby and Ziva were the only two I liked, Ducky was kind of endearing but those three could not offset my irritation at Tony to watch the show, plus I didn't care for Gibbs or McGee either so really no incentive to watch.

Yes, high five from another P&P '05 lover! There are tons of us out there; we're just far less vocal than the miniseries lovers.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-20 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Hm. Good point. Not giving them any attention at all is indeed probably the best move to make, no matter how much you're biting your tongue and longing to tell them to zip it :p.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-20 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, same here-I too enjoy some shipping from time to time, and am happy to discuss it or write it when possible. And indeed, any shippers who DO push their hobby/pairings in non-shippers' faces are very obnoxious and should back off.

I get that it must be annoying to have it all over the place when you're not into it, I can sympathise but there's not much you can do, you can't exactly demand that people stop doing what they like because you don't like it.

Exactly. The best thing to do in those instances is just try and focus on keeping your portion of the fandom conversation on other aspects of the show/characters, and hope that others, shippers included, will be willing to participate. Like stated, I do enjoy shipping, but I'm also more than happy to talk about plotlines or character arcs or things of that sort, too, so if someone starts up that kind of conversation, I'm there. And I'd be happy to start that sort of discussion myself, too, when possible.

What show is this? They're cute.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-20 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
I'm presuming it's supposed to be 'funny', drawn out to sound like 'funnnnny'. Or it's a typo. Or, it's some new weird slang that I haven't caught up with.

OMFG I'm laughing so hard at both the Sterek and the Rock Hudson secret that my sides hurt. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS THREAD SERIES, T_A.

Re: Dreams!

I had a dream I was making out with Supergirl. I was pretty upset when I woke up and had to stop.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-20 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
most walking dead fic is pretty shitty anyway tbh

Me too! I'm not looking to move in, I just like to experience the history and the age of the surroundings. But if people want some plush accommodations at Disney, go for it! (I didn't read through the 200-some responses, which seems like overkill for a relatively innocuous secret.)

(Anonymous) 2015-11-20 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think you know what the word "dominated" means because what you're describing -- a loud minority outshouting a quiet majority -- is exactly what it means to have a certain group dominating a fandom. the word you're looking for is "predominantly."

Regardless of semantics, all it takes is one rotten apple to spoil the whole barrel.

(Anonymous) 2015-11-20 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Colin Firth is my One True Darcy as well.... but you make a cogent argument about Jack Davenport. Yessss...

(Anonymous) 2015-11-20 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
I was more inclined to hate-read than hate-watch back in the day, but now I am with you, OP. I don't waste my time watching things I hate and I have very little patience for people who do so just to bitch about them.

Me too. Sometimes arugula as well

See, lettuce is one of those foods that only makes things worse. At best, you don't notice it, at worst it makes your food too cold, wet, and pulpy.

I'd say if you're a fan of 1960s or B:TAS Batman, check out the Red Panda Adventures! It features a "mystery man" superhero in much the same mold (millionaire secret identity, superhero by night) having adventures with his sidekick (his lady limo driver) in 1930s-1940s Toronto. It's a podcast that's a lot of fun to listen to. The main plot has wrapped up recently, but there's a few other one-shots coming out.

My favorite episodes are the Mad Monkey episodes. The Mad Monkey is the Red Panda's Joker, and he's not like the grim and gritty Joker, either. He's fun and his episodes are awesome; he's obsessed with the Red Panda and being the Red Panda's nemesis, but will sometimes willingly and eagerly team up with him if someone else is trying to cut in on his action and foil or kill the Red Panda before he can. Also, he's incredibly competent (a lot of his episodes just end with him LEAVING, not getting caught) and there's a huge spoiler for the very last episode that just reinforces how much I adore the Mad Monkey as a villain.

The same people do another series called Black Jack Justice that I also adore to pieces--it's a 1950s detective series with the title character and his partner, Trixie Dixon, Girl Detective. Trixie is not his love interest and they actually don't like each other much, they're just partners. They have a bunch of really funny episodes (including one where their dog narrates the story) and a bunch of sad and serious episodes (including my favorite, The Albatross) so there's a good variety to choose from.

I'd say definitely check it out :D

Check out the Finishing School series by Gail Carriger! It's YA fantasy in a world with vampires, werewolves, steam robots, and mad science. The title school is a boarding school where Victorian ladies go to learn how to be assassins. Gail's writing is really fun and silly and energetic and just a joy to read because she just kind of embraces the goofiness of this kind of steam-fantasy genre and runs with it.

It's part of the universe for the rest of her Parasol Protectorate books, but it's not necessary to have read those first. Those are fun, too, so I recommend them, but since you asked for YA and stuff in English boarding schools, I went for the Finishing School series first.

I think this is ridiculously true. Sometimes people really resent popular mega-ships because they personally hate that ship. And sometimes, a few crazy people are involved that ship, and suddenly the whole fandom is crazy shippers of this pair. My experience in various popular fandoms has been very different from what some people claim the fandom is.

Makes me think of what the Archer series had to do. Awkward.

I'd like to thank everyone for being so nice to me before. Knowing other people didn't agree with what was going on helped me a lot. So thanks for the support.

I actually just got back from an interesting presentation on Daesh and the refugee crisis. The speaker explained why she supported the use of "Daesh" - it was an old term for the organization, but it also sounds a lot like "one who crushes another beneath them". So essentially, it sounds like another word that means violent oppression. And that accurately represents the people in question. Daesh also hate being called Daesh, so fuck them.

Plus Isis is a goddess to me.

I want to thank everyone. You're all beautiful people and it has meant so much to me that there's this community that understands me.

I love the 2005 movie! I get these really appalled looks whenever I say I like it since I also like the novel and everyone always sputters, "But it's just so wrong! The movie stinks! How can you like it and like the book too?!" I don't even care. Macfadyen is my Darcy.

Good: Thanksgiving break is coming up and I can't wait to see my extended family.
I've been on a really good book binge.
I'm making good headway in my anime backlog.

Bad: I have writer's block.
I got kicked and scratched by a student who was trying to rip out her feeding cord and now I have some nasty bruises and scratches.
There's talk of massive layoffs coming up and I'm afraid I'm going to be one of them since I've been working there for less than a year.
