I love playing in multifandom rps because of that reason: the reaction and adaptation of the said character to different contexts. Some are used to weird shit (TM) and can live with it, some aren't and you need to picture their reaction: denial, numb acceptance, total depression, anger, etc. That's part of the game. Some of my characters are okay with it (like they ARE the psychos or people used to WORSE places), others took months to settle in comfortable in painful angst-horror development. It depends of the character.
I agree that is OOC to pretend nothing new is coming on UNLESS the said characters are "god-like" and are used to this situation (or reached there by their own choice).
