the movies usually aren't ever the same as the books, nor as good. also, i think the hollywood version is just that- its for the people who haven't read the comics, or followed it all the way from the start. all the subtleties and things won't be there. i liked the movie, and i have'nt read the comics, but had i, maybe i wouldn't have liked it as much. Most things like that really are to bring it to a larger fan base, and though it is for the original fans as well, unless you have someone whos a huge fan to begin with directing it (i don't know about Constantine, but i think Sin City is an example of where they tried hard to keep it as close to the comic as possible), you probably won't have anything, as an original fan, to write home about, unless you really did like it. its kind of important to keep them separate though. i see your point, as well as the OP's.
