Crime shows are so good. I particularly love a lot of the older ones - Columbo, Murder She Wrote, Rockford Files, etc. Columbo and Murder She Wrote in particular might be good for someone to watch. They can be pretty slow-paced and conversational, which might help? On the other hand, maybe Columbo plots can be a little complex and silly. But gosh, Peter Falk is so, so good.
More modern stuff can be a little trickier. I did like Criminal Minds a bit, but it's very gruesome and dark. And most of the more procedural things, like Law & Order or NCIS, I don't care for so much. and then outside of things that are more genre shows that happen to include cops, and serial dramas like The Wire, I'm not sure what else I'd recommend.
