Happy Doctor Who and Eating Disorder Day!

11: That's a dude. THAT'S A DUDE.

31: IKR??? For fuck's sake.

12: Ugh I'm glad you're keeping this secret, cause I'd beat you with my internet mace if you revealed who you are.

Also -- no one wants to go with the Master? Fine. More asploding and pime taradoxes and time sex for me.

I freaking love Lake Placid. <3

48. Please don't be afraid. You are not alone. In fandom, you will find people who like everything. I know it's the sterotype and common complaint that "gen gets no love," but I've written genfics that have been read and reviewed. I also have made many gen fanarts that have gotten love. I've found people to disscuss the purely gen asepects of favorite series with, too. (I mean, the last really big message board conversation I remember having in my fandom: We were disscussing the zoology/ecology of a fictional desert planet. No pairings in sight).

I know what you mean - a look in any corner of general fandom (this place for instance) gives the strong impression of fandom being a hormone-laden territory, but you'll find corners and other people who aren't into it as much if you look. I'd say "speak up" too, but you have to be careful in how you go about that since it's such sensitive territory for many people.

I'd also suggest maybe trying to write stuff that don't rub your personal convictions the wrong way just to be read/fit in. I've found when I try to do that, the quality of my writing inevitably suffers. Branch out and start writing the stuff you really *want* to write and you may be surprised at the readership you'll get. In any case, you'll have written something that *you* really want to read.

01. Damnit, I made this big point of making a comment for this when I read it, and then I forgot it even after re-commenting THREE TIMES.

I hate when people do this. So much. Because they're just fishing for compliments they usually don't deserve and it's usually just as bad as they were acting they thought it was. I sometimes put a comment at the end of my stories, you know, in those little author notes that no one reads, like "this didn't turn out as well as I was expecting, but I liked it," or "it went better in my head, blarg, I need a beta," and even then I'm thinking that I'm whining and being being annoying. XD

13. OK jesus christ, that it completely unreadable. It is impossible to make out the fucking text.

I'm going to give you a quick and dirty lesson in making your text-heavy secrets readable:

1. Create secret in Photoshop.

2. Rasterize the text layer.

3. Right-click on the layer, and go to 'layer style'.

4. Set up a drop shadow or outer glow as the layer style.

PRESTO, YOUR TEXT IS NOW DISTINGUISHABLE FROM THE BACKGROUND.

Even a moron can follow these simple steps.

[identity profile] fyirechilde.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
um...if you are taller than...4'8"...eat something...
that's just not healthy...

(Anonymous) 2008-05-26 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Another reason to hate Rukia, then. 33 kgs at 114cm would put her BMI at, like... 16. Anything under 18 is underweight, unless she's under 15 years old.

... sounds like subtle loli-bait to me.

10. ARE YOU IN DESPAIR?
17. ...
61. *yawns*
63. Heh.

(Anonymous) 2008-05-26 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
11. I agree with your overall sentiments about fat-bashing in fandom, but.... is it okay if I make a snide remark about the costume sucking for other reasons? Seriously, if that's supposed to be James, they have the outfit wrong and the hair looks terrible. If they're supposed to be Jesse, the hair still looks terrible and it's not even close to the right color. The person in the picture could have the body of a supermodel and I'd still call this a cosplay disaster.

17. I'm sorry about the potential future death of a character you like, and I'm hoping he doesn't die either... but as someone who's only seen a handful of episodes, my main reaction is to completely and utterly crack up every time I get to the "Adventures in Liverland" line.
Thanks anon, you made my day.

23. That's.. oddly adorable.

31. I actually LIKED Rose and I think that the gratuitous romance in S2 did nothing good for the Doctor's characterization. (Or Rose's, for that matter.) Here's hoping that S4 will manage to give some kind of closure so that everyone (in canon and fandom alike) can let go and move on.

33. From what I know, it's easier to break into the field as an author than a screenwriter. Besides, if your novel is popular enough, you can always sell the rights to a screenplay later.

36. Aggghhhh. The objectification and infantilization dripping from the kink meme request are making me so angry I could punch kittens. And the fact that you find the whole thing humorous is not really helping, anon.
Sometimes I just really wish fandom as a whole would react to people with hinky ableism issues with even a fraction of the intensity that we tend to for people with hinky racism issues.

47. Not as funny as 17's Liverland, but this still made me smile.

48. There are plenty of asexual fans out there, and plenty of non-asexual fans who like gen fic. And at least some of us feel the same way you do. You may not get as many readers as those who are in it purely for the porn, but people who are reading for actual quality will read it whether there's sex or not. Fandom needs more good gen. Please don't deprive us of it even more by letting people pressure you into writing stories that aren't what you want to write.

63. The only reason Rukia can get away with that weight at that height is because she's dead. And you will be, too, if you try and get your weight down that low unless you're about four feet tall or something. Please try to find a healthier goal for yourself, anon.

64. I can kind of see how it might be creepy for people with a doll phobia or something, but I have to agree with you. The ride is way too lovely to deserve the bashing it gets.

65. I'm pretty sure that this is a repeat.

NS!3 Pretty sure that this is a repeat, too.

63

[identity profile] a-hollow-year.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Even if you are 4'8" like Rukia, that's underweight like whoah. I hope you rethink this because that might actually kill you.

[identity profile] letloverule42.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
69. If you don't know anything about him, have never heard him sing, or anything beyond what your friend tells you...then I have to agree with the poster on page 1. AUTOMATIC FUCKING FAIL.

Uhh. Late and all that, but-

Mousse?

Yeah, Mousse is awesome. First anime crush and all that and I still love him to death. Also - meeting his VA, even like seven years later turned me into something near-pathetic with glee. Even if he did talk about Gundam more than Ranma, a;oaidsfjl.

However. That image terrifies me. Moving on.

[identity profile] turkwriter.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
7. I may not agree with everything the Boondocks says, but so what? It is a fucking hysterical show. Besides, Riley is not supposed to be a character to look up to. He's the character you look at and go, "Damn, what an idiot. I don't want to be anything like him." And, eww, he's like eight years old.

11. The main thing wrong with that cosplay is that the costume sucks. Unless it's supposed to be some lovechild of Jesse and James. Because last time I checked, James' hair was shorter nor did he wear girls' clothes (that often).

18. Aww, while I'm not a Doctor Who fan, I can totally see where you're coming from. Whenever I think about whether I'd be able to measure up to my favorite fandom's characters in their situations, I have a feeling that I wouldn't.

35. Why do I find "Long Cat is Looooooonnngg" so funny?

59...... I had a Kyle plushie that looked just like that once. O_O

61. While I do agree that a lot of anime and manga tend to use their female characters mainly as fanservice, I'm going to give Bleach a pass. Yes, it has female characters with big boobs and some nakedness, but Bleach also has plenty of fanservice aimed at women (exs: the shirtless cover pages and the fact that the guys' clothes seem to come off whenever they have a battle). Plus the mangaka is all about the fashion, so I have a sneaking feeling he was more into drawing the crazy bathing suits than what the actual women looked like.

63. I can't give Bleach a pass when it comes to character weights though. Maybe two of the women in the series (at most) are at a healthy weight. Rukia may be tiny but there is no way a real person could weigh that little in proportion to their height and not be dying/dead. I think the even crazier belief is that Orihime could be her stated weight (less than hundred pounds) and still have boobs that big.

54: MOOOOOUUUUUUSSE D: <3

(Anonymous) 2008-05-26 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
44. I've been with my boyfriend for almost two years now, and I still avoid saying his name as much as possible because I'm afraid of mispronunciation. hahaha. I call him 'you' or 'bozo' instead. With love, but still. XD

[identity profile] yummycoffee.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
25. While I also liked Iron Man, I LOVED SPEED RACER!!! I think people are taking it wayyyyy too seriously. Just sit back and have fun with it, dammit! And enjoy the colors! Ohhh man the colors.... <3

[identity profile] xreddestinyx.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
10. D'aww. The interaction between them is so cute, so I can see how they'd win you over! Even though I don't actually ship them. Kafuka has this "cute pesky little sister" thing going on, so I always saw them as having an almost sibling-like thing going on. Pink Supervisor! :D

11. ...That is the most frightening wig I have ever seen in my life.

35. Project Chanology is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of. Though I think I'd like it more if they were just running around chanting memes in a vacuum. You don't have to pretend to protest to have fun, guys.

48. As an asexual person, yes, yes, and yes. I'm really liberal about sex related things, but I'm not really interested myself. Accepted =/= everyone is obligated to participate.

61. Gormless. It's a wonderful word. :3

2, 63

[identity profile] velvet-mace.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
2) Man, I have the most elaborate self-insertion fantasies, where I sue-tastic myself with wonderful powers and elaborate backstories and I get to hang out with all the coolest characters. But I learned long ago that as much fun as my ideas are for me, no one else is interested in them. And so they stay just that. Fantasies. I don't inflict them on others. Because I'm a nice person and know the difference between what entertains me and what entertains others.

63) That only works as a good weight if you are a petite 9 year old or the same height as Dr. Ruth Westheimer -- otherwise, hello proana. My mother in law got down to that weight due to medical issues, and I'll tell you it's really not that attractive when your ribcage collapses in, your knees are wider than your thighs, and your butt cheeks are permanently spread apart.

Er... I'm the anon the wrote that (LIKE WHOA SOMEONE MENTIONED ME ON FANDOM SECRETS I'M FAMOUS NOW) and I didn't mean to make you feel bad. D: I think my interpretation of post-GS4 is different than the fandoms, I always felt like Miles must've ditched Phoenix or he was just too uptight for it to ever work out.

[identity profile] commonlogic.livejournal.com 2008-05-26 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Late to the party today...

Well, I ship it, at least to a certain extent. I ♥ Conrad and will ship him with Yuuri and anyone in his entourage save for Wolfram. Why? He's the only character in the series that I don't like. Not really sure why, but the kid just rubs me the wrong way.

That said, secrets like this embody the vast majority of what I dislike about fandom and why I get actively involved in so few. I'm not particularly familiar with what kind of tension exists between the various shippers in KKM fandom, but comments like these ruin the fun for everyone. People can ship whatever the fuck they want -- canon or not. That's what fanfic is for: doing whatever you want with someone else's characters.

Being desperate about the canonization of a ship is ridiculous -- as is bitching and generalizing about those who are desperate.

It's all just retarded. I really wish that ship wars, all of this stupid crap, and the people who keep perpetuating it would just GTFO fandom. It'd be a lot more fun for the sane people if they did.

13. inorite?poor itachi. Also, single font color > layer style > stroke > white stroke will make your secret not so blinding and difficult to read
25. Everyone who has seen Speed Racer on my flist agrees that it's an amazingly awesome movie. They also all love Iron Man. Why do people need to love one and bash the other? Why not love both like they do?
26. SDGLKHG ;; I still have a crush on him. ;_;
64. I agree, but god is your secret hard to read.

Hard to read secrets are ridiculously hard to read. D:

Then unless you're under 4'5" tall, it looks like some of those internal organs are gonna have to go. Or maybe a few limbs: that'll get rid of the extra weight.

But seriously, please don't. D: Value your health.

5. I... I have to second this. Except toss Wanda in because snark is hot. HAHA why do I feel dirty now. D: Although I can take Emma's voice like a man.

54. I HAD A THING FOR MOUSSE WHEN I WAS YOUNGER but that's a side of him I hadn't considered... ever... But then. I was young.
Ah my poor memories!
