sounds like you're the one who doesn't have an understanding of Stiles' character tbh

+1000 to all of this

Your last sentence makes me think this is Star Wars fandom.
And at least from the writing style/characterisation things, I actually can think of one author who fits this description very well (but I don't care about her so I don't know anything about her personal life).

Currently, there's this girl who has her ugly litte fingers stuck in a few fandoms I'm in and she's the very definition of a rabid, poor oppressed het-shipper who hates slash just for existing.

She has so far written at least two or three (idk if more, I've blocked her by now) all-out treatises on why the characters in several of the fandoms she's in aren't gay and the series are "NOT A YAOI" (even if one of the series in question is written by a part-time BL mangaka and you can bet your sorry ass all M/M hints are entirely intentional). She also whines a lot that she doesn't ~hate~ yaoi, she just hates that it gets shoved in her face so much even though it's not CANON. All at the same time, she ships a metric fuckton of equally-non-canon het ships, (but that's different because it's not teh icky gay). She also keeps hijacking entirely non-shippy posts to add her own het-shippy comments to it, thus shoving her ships into people's faces herself.
She's also so full of herself, it's disgusting. And as proof that she doesn't actually ~hate~ yaoi, she posted about a m/m ship she has, in the true "I'm not x-phobic, some of my friends are x" way - and lo and behold, it's one of the most absuive BL ships to ever have (dis-)graced the mainstream anime scene. Real subtle.
The worst part is: One of the fandoms she's in that I'm also in is really tiny. And some possessive part of me just wants her out because I hate it when huge assholes like the same things I like. It's not even about the shipping itself, it's how she goes about it.

... Labyrinth? There's a few like that. Or at least one who drives me up the wall for exactly those reasons.

If your sinuses are really clogged and air can't go through, water isn't going to go through either. I don't understand people who say they use them for a cold. I use one occasionally just to kind of flush out the normal level of boogers, but if I get too stuffy with a cold then it just doesn't work at all.

I've occasionally caught myself putting packaging down on the counter and carrying whatever I just opened up to the trashcan. Also I'm bad to go to the fridge and check inside then get all confused when my dry teabags aren't there.

Re: Who do you obsess over?

I'm facebook friends with some people who worked on a show I liked way back in the day. I like and sometimes comment on their statuses and 'pretend' they remember me.

Not seriously pretend, I'm cool with just being that nice lady on facebook who tells them their pets are awesome.

I felt you, OP. Sometimes I wish someone would just collect all the fics for a certain fandom or pairing, so that I would have everything I could potentially want.

Probably the douchebag pussy bitch who wormed his way into my circle of friends by randomly popping up and acting like he owned the place, and then crying and whining loudly that he wasn't automatically included into a group that had been dying off for a good year. Of course, we felt sorry for him because he seemed so hurt and sad... and then he dramatically came out as bisexual and started dating more than one of us behind our backs (yeah, imagine that, on the internet). He also told a bunch of inappropriate stories about him performing fellatio on one classmate who "pretended to be asleep", and raping another for stealing the girl he had a crush on. (Were either of them true? I still don't know to this day.)

Anyway, he eventually moved up the ranks of the community and convinced the owner of the site to give him a specific role with power. Did I mention he accused the people with that specific role of being power hungry shits who harassed any poor fool they deemed unworthy? Guess who was doing that exact same thing? He also had his own community he managed to keep afloat. Meanwhile, he was trashing the other community as inferior and trying to recruit members from there to his own community. He drove out many people and celebrated by bringing in his own people into the very community he had been trashing. And, of course, trashing the people who had fled the community, accusing them of being gatekeepers who kept out only new people (not true). He would claim the community wasn't static, but once he was in, then you'd better deal with it, because he wasn't going anywhere.

Eventually, more people wised up to what he was, but unfortunately, the damage had been done. And there are still a handful of people who remember him fondly. That's not surprising when it comes to narcissists, though. The worst part wasn't being trashed by him, or feeling like I'd lost a community... it was the people who were only half aware of what was going on, and would accuse me of being crazy for seeing where things were going. The lack of support made me feel so alone. When they finally wised up, I joined in and was supportive... but maybe I'm still bitter about the fact that I never really had any friends, as much as I wanted to believe I did...and couldn't find any, not even in fandom.

Re: I don't fully agree with your assessment of his actual character.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-08 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely agree. Would add to this that his jerkiness seems pretty clearly to be defense/ coping mechanisms i.e. he makes snarky jokes to deal with the craziness that they deal with on a daily basis. Also as a way to keep people at arm's length because he's afraid to get too emotionally close.

It's funny, but I think Scott becoming a werewolf actually forced them to broaden their social circle - if he hadn't, I could see the two of them sticking close, not bothering to make any other close friends and pining over Alison & Lydia for the rest of high school.

(Anonymous) 2017-09-08 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Late addition to this discussion, but I think Stiles becoming an FBI agent makes sense on the level that I think he's the sort of character who likes to break the rules from the inside, like how he's helped the group over the years with inside knowledge from his dad. Knowledge is power, etc etc.

On the other hand, I agree with you in that I think he either wouldn't be disciplined enough or would get too disillusioned with the job. I think Lydia would be a better personality fit actually - just as smart as Stiles but also driven, pragmatic, and able to 'play the game' social hierarchies.

OMG YES!! I was SO MAD that we're going to trade off Colin Farrell, who I really LOVE, for Johnny Depp.

Re: What's your personal hygiene like?

(Anonymous) 2017-09-08 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Shower: daily or every other day at least
Hair: every 3-4 days
Underwear: daily for pants. However i don't wash my bras particularly often unless i've super sweaty because i don't get B.O. (don't wear deoderant either, and my boyfriend attests to the fact I don't need to. He would have complained about it by now if otherwise!)

Not as far as I know but I wouldn't be surprised if she popped up there as well at some point.

1. This one girl who kind of just out of nowhere began subtweeting me A LOT. At first I didn't notice because I had some friends she didn't talk to so I was caught up in that group, but then a few times she ignored my posts addressing her and I knew something was up. I began going through her posts and other social media and noticed a trend of her talking about annoying people she hated. The giveaway that at least one of those annoying people was me was this rant she made about being a Harmony shipper a day after I had made a comment about how Ron and Hermione were end game and JK Rowling had always been obvious about it (our fandom wasn't HP but a lot of us in our fandom were HP fans, and this was before the last book was released).
I thought it was weird she was posting these things in places I could see but never named me or addressed me. Like, be a bitch to my face or get the fuck over yourself. I obviously don't know what the problem is if I am unaware that there is even a problem. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
For the record, I had been in this particular fandom for a couple years and she and I had gotten along pretty well. We never had heated disagreements or anything of the sort. Either she's always been fake with me and got tired of it or she found me annoying after awhile.
She eventually left the fandom, and I still don't really know why she disliked me so much, but if her intent was to make a new enemy, she succeeded. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

2. Different fandom: This girl who always thought her opinion was the only opinion that mattered. At first, I didn't even know who she was at all, but a friend of mine began going on about how there was this one member who was an intimidating BNF in our fandom. My friend and the BNF became friends, and the BNF began throwing herself into conversations in my friend group. The only person who liked the BNF was said friend who brought her up. My other friends and I found her really pretentious, rude, and small minded. On many occasions I got into arguments with her. I eventually discovered she used a lot of fake pictures because I secretly stalked her a few times. With the time that has passed, I'm sure she's in a white nationalist group now, possibly on a boat trying to get rid of immigrants.

3. The friend of mine who became friends with the BNF. I found out years later, when I no longer spoke with this former friend (we didn't have any falling out or anything, she left the fandom and we emailed each other until we both got lazy and just stopped talking), that this "friend" was a complete fake and two faced psycho. She created numerous fake accounts to talk to other members and weed information from them. She even used a fake account on me, which pissed me off. I thought she and I were close enough that she wouldn't pull stunts like that on me. I even defended her when some other friends had falling outs with her! I was so mad (but mostly at myself for not seeing it). I knew she was a liar, but I didn't think she was that much of a liar. Funnily enough, about a week after finding out all her dirty secrets, she randomly emailed me, telling me how much she missed me and how she came back to our fandom to find that so much had changed. I wanted to call her out on her bullshit, but I didn't want to get roped into her web of lies again so I just left the email alone. And for the record, I know for a fact she and the BNF are different people. Two terrible, awful people.

These three girls are probably the reason why I'm not active in any fandoms anymore more. I come on FS, but I'd rather be on anon mode. I'm so tired of the unneeded high school drama.

When I think of the Sherlock fandom, I think of the fight they got into with the Shinee (KPOP group) fandom. I can understand why you did what you did. I wasn't in either fandom, but I did watch the drama unfold.

LMAO OMG What a way to exit the fandom.

Re: What movie did you love on first viewings, but end up hating on later viewings?

(Anonymous) 2017-09-08 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
To be fair, the movie has some great visuals. But yeah, I hated it the first time I saw it. I thought the plot was shit, the characters pretty unlikable, and some of the songs were good, but they didn't do anything new or interesting with it.

I heard the discredit is mostly due to lack of research. We were told flossing is as important as brushing (sometimes, it was said to be more important than brushing), but there is no research at all to back up the claim. So really, it is probably wise to floss, but not as much as we were previously told to. But who knows? Maybe there will be real research one day and we'll be told to floss again.
