I think a lot of it was once again based on a surge of pity, because they made him so tragic and sympathetic in this movie. Plus the burns were uberrealistic, and considering I took a premed class where we had to spend a whole week talking about that kind of thing, all I could think of was "Oh, you poor thing!"
