I usually have a solid idea of the general outline and ending of fic I write. I usually leave fic alone for a few days-weeks after I finish before editing the rough draft in preparation for posting (I don't post WIPs any more).

I re-read the most recent one I finished, which ended in the way I had intended from the start, and now I'm legitimately pissed off at the ending.

I can't even

(It was supposed to sort of be a fix-it fic with a side of Redemption Equals Death, but what was meant to be bittersweet ended up being incredibly fucking depressing.)

I'm not sure whether to be pleased that I got such a strong emotional reaction out of myself, or pissed off at my failure to create the intended tone

Either way, now I think I have to rewrite the end, which is also annoying, because then I think it's just going to turn out saccharine and sappy and all OOOH EVERYBODY LIVES

I am sitting here laughing at the absurdity of the whole thing but there isn't anyone IRL I talk to about the fact that I write fic so I can't share this bit of WTF asininity with anyone else

pls tell me that this sort of ridiculous bullshit happens to other people, lol
