Lots of people have been bringing this up: what do you think about having the secret makers put the fandom in the image itself, rather than the name-the-fandom thread? Like a note at the bottom of the image (eta: or a note in the comment itself) that says:

fandom: Dr. Who, or fandom: House, or fandom: fanfiction/fanart/rp, or fandom: Pokemon/Twilight Crossover with a Bella the Bellsprout and her sparkly vampire virgin pikachu boyfriend

I'd go into effect starting with the next subs post (so everything submitted this week is fine, don't worry). The first comment would still be there for repeats and stuff like that.

[Poll #1272473]

What if the fandom is so small, spilling it would reveal the maker's identity?
If they didn't want to name the fandom, they probably wouldn't name characters or anything, right? So if it were like "I ship this one character with this other one, but no one else does and I feel alone, but this fandom is so small everyone would know it's me // fandom: character shipping"? That could work.

Does the fandom tag have to be on the image itself?
On second thought, probably not. You could just include it in the comment you put the link in, and that would work, too!

I don't like that idea, because of the secrets where the fandom is so small, spilling it would reveal the maker's identity.

I do see this as a good idea, but on the other hand, would that mean secrets WITHOUT the identification would be rejected? That would make for a lot more rejections, I think. I mean, it would be really helpful but I'd hate for people to not get their secrets posted for forgetting that :/

No. Eet ees an artistic thing. Most people make lazy ugly secrets, it's true, but some people go the extra effort to make nice-looking ones and I wouldn't want them marred by needing the fandom slapped on the bottom.

i'm for labels. [livejournal.com profile] broadwaysecrets does it and the recognition helps a lot. but then, people would probably forget to put their labels, and that'd bring on a w hole barrage of problems.

I think the name the fandom thread is fine. Sometimes people don't WANT a fandom to be found out, since it'll give them away. Also, that would be an incredible hassle.

I think making rules about what goes ON the image is probably just a bad idea. We have not secrets and stuff like that for people that are doing it wrong, but what would the new section be? "unlabeled secrets?" :( I just prefer having a thread.

But sometimes people don't name the fandom on purpose, right? Would they still be made to name the fandom in those cases? 'Cause then we have to figure out where to draw the line, etc.

And what about those multi-fandom ones? Who wants to read a gigantic list of fandoms for each secret? ;)

I say no because it would ruin the point of some small-fandom secrets that have little notes like "If you know the fandom, you win a million internets." Also, like [livejournal.com profile] linear_flower said, the secret-maker's identity could be revealed.

[identity profile] lovedforaday.livejournal.com 2008-10-04 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
None of the above. I skip secrets when I don't recognize the fandom anyway, so it wouldn't make much difference. You can name which indistinguishable anime or video game the secret is about, and it still wouldn't make much difference to me.

I think it's a good idea. But I don't think you should ban a secret just because it doesn't have it.

I'm saying no because of those secrets where it would out the secret maker to reveal the fandom. Also, small fandoms.

Methinks it would be okay to ADVISE people on the info page or something that indicating fandom (or at least genre, or medium, or SOMETHING) on secrets where the fandom and secret are both REALLY VAGUE is a good idea, as I've posted intentionally vague secrets before (to keep from being obvious) that were mistaken for not-Fandom and it's really annoying...

[identity profile] lolabobs.livejournal.com 2008-10-04 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
personally I'd like a comment thread for each secret so everyone could comment against that and I wouldn't have to search for the bits I wanted to see...

this is probably the wrong place to comment....

[identity profile] facets.livejournal.com 2008-10-04 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
asdfjhsdk not worth it, people are lazy and you can usually find out via name the fandom or asking in the comments or smth

[identity profile] jaclynhyde.livejournal.com 2008-10-04 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd say encourage it, but don't make it a rule--as [livejournal.com profile] ecctv said, a rule will make for a lot more rejected secrets.

Considering some people are too dumb to work out how to resize an image or link to it correctly, I don't think this is a good idea.

[identity profile] captainsarah.livejournal.com 2008-10-04 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Pointless.

[identity profile] scrawled.livejournal.com 2008-10-04 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
it's kinda unnecessary.

[identity profile] ningen-demonai.livejournal.com 2008-10-04 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I think people would be lazy/forgetful and just wouldn't do this, so there'd probably be a lot more secrets in the "doing it wrong" pile.

[identity profile] an-evening-rose.livejournal.com 2008-10-04 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with the if the fandom is so small, then it would reveal who did it.

The mystery usually is what makes it so fun. At least I think so anyway.

I've always been fond of the secrets that say (or suggest) "Bonus points if you recognize this film/show/book/fandom/&c." It seems like it would be less fun, less mysterious, if we had to start labeling.

[identity profile] sofuckingrock.livejournal.com 2008-10-04 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
naming the fandom would be absolutely awesome.
sometimes a secret looks interesting and i would like to know the fandom but then i'm too lazy to ask... so it would help me personally a lot. but maybe i'm just TOO lazy ;)

No.

No way. I like it the way it is.
