I'm not saying that it's literally her, but it's the same attention whoring mentality.

I won't apologize for the fact that the cat my roommate and I adopted is named Winnie which is short for Winchester. We both love the show and we don't tell a lot of people but we think it's pretty darn cool. :D

I think they're useful genre distinctions, even if they are the same thing.

To be honest, I've ONLY heard of racist right-wing bigots wishing violence against Obama (that poor man), never the other way around. Don't lose hope yet.

Also, I really don't care if I offend anyone by saying something like that. If you wish violence against Obama just because he's black or just because you don't agree with him, you're either a bigot, a racist, or some combination of the two.

If TTGL itself is a reconstruction of the Super Robot genre, then Simon/Nia is a faithful reconstruction of the concept of true love.

... I'll be interested to see how you back that statement up. I don't really see the if/then correlation between the two.

I suppose my problem is that I never saw any development between the two, or even in Nia herself. She comes "packaged" purely to "make Simon better"--hell, she even comes in a box. And the seven years in which their relationship "developed" aren't even shown. Yes Simon loves Nia and Nia loves Simon ... but I do not see how that relationship is particularly amazing. It. Just is.

Regarding the first pic (and past pics) in the 'what is this' section... when naming the fandom isn't required, why should you exclude someone just because you don't recognize it? Seems unfair.

I wasn't even talking about the seven year timeskip, actually; I think most of the development happens between episode 9 and 15. The novels hint at this as well, from what I've read.

I don't mind that Nia is "packaged" to "make Simon better," because Simon "appears" to "make Nia better" as well, and we get to see the little ways in which this happens, and I find that inspiring.

But if it's not your thing, well, obviously me telling you why it's mine isn't going to change your mind.

I love Fry/Bender too. And I wrote it once, but it was only a ficlet. I think the pairing has so much subtext though.

I can't speak a lot for Nia since I'm a Gurren Lagann newbie, though. Still, it's sad. She seems to be rather cute. =(

On the first point, I'd say they're all subcategories of comics. So no, you can't judge two subcategories by the same standards. Manwha has different cultural and artistic (and professional) standards than manga, etc. As for using the creator, I don't know much about that. But I'd hate to see one standard for all those comics, since even though they could all be apples (so it's not like comparing apples to oranges), a Macintosh still isn't a Red Delicious.
...Ok, the late night has caught up with me and my analogies.
You seem to have put a lot of thought into your arguments and you pretty well-informed. I guess I'd have to know more about the issue to really say much else, and in the midterm season, that's unlikely to happen. ;)
