Dear 142,

Thank you. THANK YOU. I'm a cartooning student. I've read comics from at least 4 different countries at this point in my life. I understand that they come form differnt places but... doesn't it all translate to the same thing? "Manga", "Comic", "Manhwa"... Aren't they the same word just in different languages?

I was actually criticized by a teacher once for being "a manga elitist" because I didn't like a comic from (I believe it was) France that he had me read. I snapped at him and told him that it wasn't because I "only like manga" that i didn't like what he had me read and listed off all of the reasons I actually hadn't liked it (hard to follow, required too much closure, no character development, ect.). He refused to listen and said that I was just toting my "manga superiority". Which is bullshit since I'm willing to read any comic from any country.

(P.S. - Something I've always found amusing... "Manga" is the spanish word for "sleeve". I don't know why that amuses me so.)
