Yeah, but what makes me like a character might make someone else hate her. What makes someone else hate a character might make me like her. Preferences are subjective.

I thought you meant ruin something, ie, in a role in the story -- ruin a relationship or a situation, but I know not all 'character flaws' will do that.

And again, where did you get this definition from...? Did you just make it up or were you gathering it from somewhere? Because I do know there's a long literary history of character flaws which exist for empathy and sympathy instead, while still being flaws... (ex, the entire concept of hubris revolves around pride you can understand in the situation, but a pride which will cause a downfall, only you still feel for that character because they had so much and their arrogance so understandable, etc). Character flaws eliciting sympathy or love is where the entire concept of catharsis as a literary device comes from -- personally, I find Ahiru a very cathartic tragic heroine to follow.
