I agree that sometimes people like the women for it, though I will say unfortunately rarely in male-lead action genre. True Blood has a female lead, and I find that this makes a huge difference. Fans of female-led shows tend to not be the "I hate all but two female characters ever" types. I'm not sure a character like that would go over as well in SGA, and look how mean almost everyone but the GSR fans were to Sara in CSI fandom.
