I'd watch it.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-30 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I enjoyed it just fine, but then I can barely remember 11 and never watched 12 so perhaps that's why? I'm not going to cite it as Film Of The Year on any level, but for me it was an enjoyable romp and that's all I expected so I'm good with it.

I never noticed it before, but at least in that picture there is definitely something there, especially in the eyes

I agree. Not scary. Though there were few "scary" books I found scary. But I still loved them as a kid.

Honestly this is the only one of these movies I liked. I didn't like the ones with men.

What does this mean? She looks like a pug but bland? Pugs aren't very bland looking.

(I'm not a Rihanna fan, I'm just generally baffled by this comment.)

(Anonymous) 2021-03-30 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
AYRT Like the petiteness of her features just reminds me of pugs. And yeah I find her super super bland looking. Everything about her is just boring to look at for me. My eyes just kind of slide right over her. I get the same thing with quite a few pop stars and actresses though. Objectively I can see they're pretty but they're just so blah to me.

(I shouldn't have mentioned the pug thing, I can see how that was confusing.)

It turns out Steven Soderbergh is a really fucking good director I guess

(Anonymous) 2021-03-30 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
SA Hollywood actors too.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-30 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't mind Dickens but he is incredibly windy and hard to get through

The good bits are mostly worth it for me but god there's a lot of wastage

(Anonymous) 2021-03-30 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Dickens is hugely overrated. Christmas Carol and the opening of Great Expectations are probably his best stuff.

(Miss Haversham is a brilliant creation, if only the book was about her)

(Anonymous) 2021-03-30 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I think Rihanna is very pretty, but also, I think with her - and a lot of other performers and celebrities - it's as much about their persona and charisma as their physical features

I just finished this book, OP!

(Anonymous) 2021-03-30 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Go on, bitch about it because I'll actually know what you're talking about!

(Anonymous) 2021-03-30 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Tale of Two Cities whips ass as a novel

(Anonymous) 2021-03-30 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
You can tell when was being paid per part.

Two Cities will always be my other favorite besides Christmas Carol. I don't like anything else of his, though.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-30 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I went through a phase of trying to read all of Dickens, perhaps if I'd read Tale of Two Cities before Dombey & Son I'd have made it xD

(Anonymous) 2021-03-30 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I couldn't make it through Two Cities. The courtroom scene at the beginning with the innocent young girl and how Dickens dwelt on her innocence and naivete really bugged me.

As someone who has a MA in British Lit, Dickens is one of my most hated authors. I can't stand his stuff, and I frankly dont like the man very much. You're better off just watching the Muppet version. And any adaptation of his films.

I liked it a lot. Sandra Bullock and Cate Blanchette had crazy chemistry and I thought Annie Hathaway was such a great, on the nose casting.

I thought it was more sad than scary

(Anonymous) 2021-03-30 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Well when he was 45 he started fucking an 18 year old, one that he had known when she was 17 so yes you are right to be creeped out!

(Anonymous) 2021-03-30 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
That particular book freaked me the fuck out as a kid, OP, so I'm with you

Just something about the idea that this could be true and you would have know way of knowing - it was a very existential idea of horror for me to grapple with as a kid

(Anonymous) 2021-03-30 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugggh. I'm disappointed that the vibes I was picking up on were real and not just a writer's affectation on behalf of a character. :(

Sexual/Relationship Advice

(Anonymous) 2021-03-30 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I am four years into a committed relationship with another woman and we are getting married soon. Everything is fine except our sexual appetites are really disparate, almost incompatible. She could go a month or more without having sex, and when we finally do have sex, she rushes through her orgasm and I'm left high and dry and ultimately faking an orgasm myself. I know I shouldn't be faking it, but she has so little sexual energy. By contrast, I am a highly sexual person who wants it very often and has adventurous, exploratory tastes. I've taken to masturbating daily to scratch that itch. It is really the only time I finish.
I remember clearly really great and frequent sex in our relationship at first. I can't help be afraid that it is me, that she is turned off because I've gained weight in the last year. I'm also afraid that this is the real her and it's just something I'll have to live with. I love her, but I don't feel fulfilled. And I know that she will get defensive, insulted and depressed if I bring this up to her. What do I do?
