I don't disagree that girl characters who are kickass and can fend for themselves get introduced a lot and then are put in situations where they become the damsel in distress. But if the same character was a boy, would that be "character derailment" or just Bob's turn to get saved? Bonus points if the girl in question isn't the only person on the show who ever needs to get saved.
And besides, why do girl characters always need to be "strong"? Fandom's okay with our boys being weak or breaking down, so why is a girl suddenly a "stereotypical girl" if she's strong for the entire series and cracks once?
