I get pretty annoyed by these kinds of games because I feel like they make 'queer' into an aesthetic or a subculture when to me, queer should just be an identity. The way they write about queer people feels alienating and puts me off entirely.

I say this as someone who loves TTRPGs, is queer and who has identified as queer for years -- the kinds of 'queer communities' and 'queers' these settings cater to simply doesn't include people like me, or a lot of my acquaintances and friends.

It's a secret because Jesus H. Christ, I do NOT want to start wank or get involved with the 'queer TTRPG fandom' that... I guess, as a queer TTRPG fan, I'm not actually a part of, apparently.

Inspired by the Star Wars lore videos I've been watching on Youtube lately. What media do you think has the best or most interesting worldbuilding. Use whatever criteria you want. Just tell us about media that has worldbuilding you think works really well.

The top two for me are Tolkien and the Dune series. In both cases, they are both complex and interesting. The worldbuilding in both is a big part of the draw to the books for me.

Star Wars is great as well. Both canon and legends have complex worldbuilding that is really fun to explore. And there are different levels, depending on how deep you want to dive in. those who just want to stick to the movies can do that, but for those of us who want to know more, it has been planned out and thought through.

Babylon 5 is nice because most of the worldbuilding is right there in the series. And it is interesting how everything is connected and once you've watched the whole thing you see the big picture and how everything led to where it was going. It isn't as complex as some others, but the interconnectedness is a lot of fun.

I read it in my teens and have only read parts of it since. Same with The Odyssey, where I used a couple of sections of that for my undergraduate thesis.

I don't think I could do either in one whole go again because it's not exactly like reading a book in the sense we're used to.

I love the Iliad, though the Odyssey is my favorite. Actually, I love all the ancient epic poems. The Aeneid is great, Gilgamesh is fascinating, and the Ramayana is really fun. And Beowulf is awesome, though that one is Medieval, not ancient.

I have no idea about Extreme Meatpunks Forever, but I can definitely second Dream Askew turning me off. It was multiple things that threw me off, it's hard to really say what exactly. But I'm a relatively introverted person and pretty damn ace, and I guess that level of extroverted sexuality (with fetish gear listed as one of the recommended options for character creation) didn't resound with me. It's okay if fetish as a gender identity rather than just being something that you're into on the side is your thing, but it's not something I'm familiar with in IRL communities.

Also as an aside, how does one play a story without combat? I'm not really used to the concept of sitting down and having a TTRPG session without dice rolls like Dream Askew had.
