Two and a half things:

1 -- you're probably already aware of things like this happening to comms all over LJ. If you notice this happening on F!S, just pm me and I'll delete posts/report to LJ abuse/whatever.

2 -- what do you guys think about this? Maybe at the start of each new week, same time as the new submission post at 12 AM Saturday EST (that's 5 AM Saturday GMT, 1 PM Saturday GMT+8)?

.5 -- and something sort of random but what kinds of memes would you like to see on F!S?

There's a very easy way to circumvent this. In the comms that I'm in that've been affected (shoebox_project and iheartmyroom), the hacker got in because the maintainer's email address on this was expired, and the hacker could use a back door to reactivate the account and gain control that way.

Since you're the sole maintainer, MAKE SURE that the email address attached to this comm - and your account - is up to date! (I'm basically just being really glad that my biggest comm is still small enough that no one would pay it any attention XD)

- This is my first time hearing it, here's hoping for the best!

- Good idea!

- Cracky fandom memes, I think?

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 10:46 am (UTC)(link)
Memes? Well, whatever you like, if you want 'em; I generally don't come to F!S for memes; I think it's great just the way it is.

DRAWING ONES. LIKE THE MS PAINT ONE THAT WENT AROUND TODAY.

also re: point number two, IDGI -- but i am in a nice time zone so maybe that's why.

Yes please to the timezone change. I also miss a lot of the discussion because of the current posting schedule.

[identity profile] wayya.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 11:11 am (UTC)(link)
If it happens you probably won't be able to delete the post because the hacker will change the password login of the community ): IMO the best thing to do is warn the watchers of the community (which you already did) and set up an elaborated password for the community while making sure it's different from all the email accounts associated with community.

I'm in a different timezone too, but I don't know if it's a good idea because I would probably be even less motivated to comment a secret after a week than a few hours later after it was posted :/

2.
You mean this (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomsecrets/62282.html?thread=117051210#t117051210)? And I think you meant 12 AM Saturday EST, unless you're changing the time new submission posts go up. I like the idea. I don't check F!S every single day and that gives my replies a chance to be heard.

1. thanks for the heads up, will keep a look out.

2. I'm happy with my timezone, but when I can't get to f!s for a few days already, it's annoying, because like the OP said, commenting and wanking and whatever is already over :(

.5 - not any more than you're doing already, but it might be interesting to see if anyone's done any fanworks inspired by f!s?

[personal profile] conflict 2009-03-05 11:29 am (UTC)(link)
2. Yes please. That would be amazing.
5. Yay, memes! /helpful

[identity profile] bishojo-kitsune.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 11:38 am (UTC)(link)
1. Thanks for the heads up

.5 . Is it possible to redo an old meme? That ship meme was insanely awesome.
If not, hmm, maybe an rp meme? Or a writing meme, I mean there are so many art memes, but I don't see writing ones so much.

1. Never seen it happen, but it's good to have been warned, thanks!

2. Will that really accomplish anything? In a community with that many members there are always going to be some who feel left out because they only enter the discussion when there are 10+ pages. Maybe making something like genre days would take some of the pressure of that (movie monday, book tuesday, manga wednesday, etc.)?

5. I like the idea of holiday memes, but I'd also be open to event memes about big events in fandom in general, like the new Dr. in Dr. Who, for example. There are usually a lot of secrets concerning those, anyway, might as well have the majority in one post!

[identity profile] xekstrin.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 12:14 pm (UTC)(link)
How 'bout a meme where your characters indulge in your own RL secrets, or something similar? Or they have their own secrets... yeah I have no idea where I'm going with this one, help please.

[identity profile] rejects.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 12:32 pm (UTC)(link)
#1: Good to know!

#2: That sounds just more confusing than anything. I know the pains of trying time it so that everyone can participate but...

#1/2: I agree with whoever said fanworks :U

[identity profile] gyllespi.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
2 - I'm not really see much point in this, since it seems likely that people in bad timezones will still be second and third to discuss stuff, but I don't mind a discussion post as long as it's small and doesn't take up space on my flist! ACTUALLY the more I think about this the cooler it sounds. Once a week sounds good anyway. I'M FOR IT.

3 - I REALLY LOVED THAT NEW YEAR'S MEME with the F!S quilt :(

I agree about #2 :/ I feel left out, too, so that woulD be awesome.

[identity profile] thebigpicture.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 01:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yea it happened to Scans daily recently and probably a few months ago happened to sbp

[identity profile] missmorrichan.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
2 - This does sound pretty cool; sometimes I work late so I can't catch the secret post 'till it's practically old hat. How would the review post work? I'm assuming it'd be a lot of work to repost every single secret, so how would they be numbered in order to discuss them? Like, say, if you wanted to talk about number 114 on a Thursday, you'd go (Thursday - 114) or something?

3 - I loves me some memes! Not just the friending meme (though that's good too), but the crossover fanworks meme was a great one; I'd love to see that one come back :D And the panfandom rec meme was good for us optimistics who dream of not being one-man-fandoms... I can't think of any new memes to add right now, but seeing those two return would be grand!

Sorry if I make little sense, very tired, forgive me xD;

I second the MS Paint Meme...:-D.

2. I kind of like the idea because even though I'm in the EST zone, I still don't get home until around midnight or so some days and by that time msot of the fun's over. Maybe you could give it a trial run for a couple of weeks and see how it pans out compared to the current comments?

2.5. Any kind of memes are good! I liked the fic rec meme, perhaps something like that with fanart, AMVs, other miscellaneous fanworks? Draw memes would be fun. I also enjoy the friending memes since I've made a lot of awesome LJ friends through those.

[personal profile] autumnrain 2009-03-05 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
2- A discussion post could be good. To be honest, I'm always just glad you're consistent when it comes to update times. I always know that when it gets to about 10pm my time, it's f!s time ^^;

2.5- I personally enjoyed the crossover fandom meme, because I got to write some fun and weird things and it was fun seeing what people came up with. I'd totally be up for one of those again :)

[identity profile] oldstarnewshine.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
OBSCURE FANDOM MEME! Pimp out your favorite things no one's heard of.

[identity profile] nakotaco.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I actually kind of like the idea of a weekly discussion post - I know I don't normally have any issues because of my timezone, like the OP that suggested it, but there've sure been times when I had to be away from my computer for one reason or another and missed an FS post, and was disappointed later to find that there was a secret I'd have liked to participate in the discussion about.

[identity profile] xenafox.livejournal.com 2009-03-05 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh, whoever said the picture meme/MS Paint Meme...I think that would be really fun :)

The crossover fanworks meme was my favorite.

I like the idea of number 2, but I don't know how many people would actually participate. It's worth a try, at least?
