I think Brosnan is good (although I'd rank him 4th out of the Bonds) but what I like about him is that he doesn't go full cheese, all the time, the way Moore did. He has a little bit of steel, especially in Goldeneye.

I've found ones that beat out anime fics.

Any east Asian novel where there isn't an official translation yet (just fan translations) seems to have a LOT of fanfic that reads just as machine translated as some of the novels. Like, it'll seem fine from the summary and at least have a half-interesting premise, and then I read and it's soooo grating.

I have no idea how to even describe it.

Do you think anime-based fic is worse than fic based on other types of media? Or is this just Sturgeon's Law in action?

(Admittedly, I'm not in any anime fandoms, but I'm very interested in how people perceive writing quality of fic in different fandoms.)

In retrospect, the Brosnan!Bond films suffer for me because I'm always wishing he was actually Thomas Crown instead.

Back in the day I was rooting for Brosnan to become Bond. Not only was he hot, he was so good and proved he can be gritty as he was in the Fourth Protocol.

I was so happy when he got the role.

My admittedly cynical take is that the author was seriously dumb enough to think that nobody would notice the glaring similarities and is now backpedaling like crazy and framing it as a representation issue because she thinks that makes her look like less of a lazy writer and possible plagiarist.

My guess is that the big popular shonen anime fic tend to run a little worse on average. Mostly because it's a lot of younger peoples' first foray into fandom.

I think shows like this SHOULD be more planned in advance. And I say this as someone who didn't even hate the ending that much, probably because at that point I just wasn't that invested in the story lol. It just feels disrespectful to the audience when the writers keep making things up as they go in a serialized shows until the ending is a big mess.

I find this even with series that have official translations (at least for the shows if not the books). So many MDZS fics, even newer and popular ones, have this oddly clipped and weirdly phrased "style" of writing. Can't stand it.

I love anime's trashfire fanfics. I liked most the ones written by people who had no access to the source material, and only the repeated fandom memes, which just went off in such weird direction, most of which were written in the geocities or earlier days.
