Games thread!

Maybe this is unfair, but I've never even attempted her work because I thought... well, if I wanted that style of writing with all the fandom stuff and tropes, I'd just... read fanfic? From fandoms that I enjoy? And not that.

There are adult genre books!

(Not to make it all about me but I'm publishing an adult fantasy and I'm frustrated with everyone who assumes it's YA because YA fantasy is the only thing anyone knows.)

Have you considered an anarcho-syndicalist commune?

It's boring af. Does that count as an opinion?

Same, OP.

Notwithstanding his early questionable writing, I genuinely, unironically love Neelix as a character.

Data, I'm 'meh' on at best, and the show's obsession with shoving him down my throat every other episode tips him over the edge into flat-out annoying as hell.

No shade on Spiner, whom I've thoroughly enjoyed in other things.

Honestly I prefer this one:

I’ve heard The Poppy War gets shelved in YA a lot. You know, the book inspired by the Rape of Nanking.

Inspired by #1

Why do adults read YA books?

I understand that YA can be well-written, and that there are things YA readers want in their reading material that they feel they can reliably get from YA books and not from other genres. So I guess my question is really: what are those things that readers can only get from YA books? And why is it impossible to find those things in non-YA fiction, or simply make adult fiction that includes those things?

For prose that sounds good, alternating stressed and unstressed syllables covers a multitude of ills. It worked for Shakespeare, and it will work for you.
