102 That scene disturbed me too. How could anyone view the jets as the good guys after that?

105- That scene bothered me too. I think it said something about the male mentality toward women in that era. Although I think there were other ways to convey that. I am not sure that I agree with my husbands interpretation of this, but it might make it seem less horrible: she really was not opposed to sex with him, it was sex in that time and place. Yes, but no still should be no.

128= The books did. Maybe now that the books are done, the movies will.

135- It was a hard scene to watch. Especially if you have had to remove a loved ones life support. IT aired a couple weeks after we removed my mom's. we had to take her off sedation and tell her what was happening too. That scene made me cry.

146- I am watching this on DVD and am on season two. Secrets like yours make me unsure if I want to watch more.

149- He was still more sexy in the movie than in the book. In the book he was fat and very depressed.

Not the op, but I used to be friends with someone who despised Cordelia. When she'd find pictures of her, she'd write "boo hiss." It all stemmed from her dislike of Xander/Cordy because it interfered with Xander/Buffy.

Frankly, even though I'm not a huge fan, I don't dislike her either. I found her story arc to be interesting and, for the most part, well developed. And I've yet to hear an actual reason for hating her that isn't as shallow as "But she ruined my shipppp"

136 and 155

[identity profile] missmayze.livejournal.com 2009-03-26 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
136) Wow, so glad I'm not in the Buffy/Angel fandom. Cordy is the shit!

155) I know exactly what you mean, anon. I guess I can understand if they hate Lois, because God knows there's fictional characters I dislike, but it's the things they say about Erica that really bother me. Seriously, some of the stuff I've come across was just so vile, I couldn't believe it. The Smallville fandom is horrible and I'm pretty much over it now, thank God. They're really not worth my time.

I agree, and that goes for any fandom.

If you want to make an OC, create your own story/universe.

118 I LOVE HER BUT I AM SUCH A GAIUS FANGIRL (LOL SHUT UP) THAT WHEN SHE (RIGHTFULLY) NEARLY LET HIM DIE WHILE THEY WERE ON THE BASESHIP I WAS LIKE "OH NO YOU DID NOT"

156 THERE WAS A CROSSOVER EPISODE. MUFFIN BUFFALO!!

This. I'm pretty sure his boyfriend doesn't think his being gay is a waste.

Ugh, seriously. I was going to say exactly this.

Because I know people are going to ask:
http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/the_awful_truth/b100753_blind_vice_another_gay_hunk_bites_dust.html

It's a big hooplah in the SPN fandom.

104. What is this?

[identity profile] 3goodtimes.livejournal.com 2009-03-26 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
149. Yeah, I have to agree there. They made him a bit pudgy, but Dan wasn't rockin as much middle age chub-dork in the movie as he did in the comic. Wilson looked like a slightly awkward sexy guy with period bloat.

Not geeky enough to meet my standards. Not geeky enough at all.

[identity profile] we-are-zombies.livejournal.com 2009-03-26 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
128. Um... It's a BOOKSTORE. Twilight is a popular BOOK. In fact, right now it is THE popular book. And this popular BOOK has spawned a popular MOVIE, which the bookstore is now hyping, which is kind of its purpose. I don't understand, OP. I don't understand. Did you expect Borders to ignore the release because you don't deem the book worthy? Businesses don't work that way. If you're that easily offended then you're going to have a hard time functioning in life.
Also, Harry Potter did get release parties in certain areas. A friend of mine went to one for the fifth book.
154. Well, there are worse things than having a body like Lady Gaga. :)

[identity profile] glamourcorpse.livejournal.com 2009-03-26 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
136. Just for the record I fucking LOVE Cordy and was crushed when they brought her back normal for only one episode. :(

149. And still I'd hit that so fuckin' hard.

153. Wait, is there a new movie coming out?

149. much sexier with love handles

[identity profile] 3goodtimes.livejournal.com 2009-03-26 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
149. I missed fat/depressed Dan in the movie. I can relate to that. I can't relate to 'mildly attractive and only slightly geeky but still banging barely legal chicks' Dan at all! :(

[personal profile] midvalley 2009-03-26 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, I guess one could argue that Harry Potter got several books worth of midnight release parties, and Twilight only got one book and one movie's worth.

Frankly, I will cut someone if corporate up and jumps on the bandwagon for the "midnight release parties for anything that looks like it will be remotely popular"!! It was kind of fun for Harry Potter, because the fanbase was so huge, and there'd never really been a phenomenon like this before. Now I think they're just trying too hard. The Breaking Dawn midnight release was barely worth the extra hours the store had to shell out money for. I'm glad we didn't do one for the movie.

[/barely-related, incoherent rant]

155

(Anonymous) 2009-03-26 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
106: FUCK YES. I know unfortunate events gets flack for being repetitive and it's not to everyone's taste, but I love the way Snicketverse works. Not my favorite ever but I love the 'verse all the same.

155: I love Lois :( (She's actually the only character I can stand in that show, Chloe being second) But to be honest, I think I've watched about three seasons of Smallville and I honestly think its pretty dull;;.

Out of curiosity, how does fandom feel about Lana? (I'm guessing everybody loves Clarke and Lex? :|)

101. I can't tell you the number of characters I was not that attracted to until one of my muses decided to hit that. You're not alone.

102. No, you are not the only person who is bothered by this scene, especially since it is really frickin' obvious that if they hadn't been interrupted, they would have gang-raped her.

135. I didn't nearly choke on my own vomit, but I sure bawled like a kid.

136. Preface: I don't know the fandom and I don't know the character. HOWEVER, I so don't get your logic or anyone else's who uses this line. SHE'S NOT REAL. SHE IS WHAT THE WRITERS MADE HER. EVERYTHING ELSE IS IN YOUR HEAD. There's nothing WRONG with loving aspects of a character that only exist in your head, but judging other people for not having the same perceptions as you is not so cool. If a character in a canon doesn't have any characterisation, or their characterisation has been destroyed by writers in a later book or season or series, WE ARE NOT OBLIGED TO LOVE FICTIONAL PEOPLE BASED ON THE "POTENTIAL" that only their specific fans still see. Even if they're female. Or black. I like many characters for reasons that are only apparent to someone with my personal background and issues and are not what the author ever intended. I also accept that other people who cannot read my mind do not feel obliged to like them for my reasons.

It makes me sad when people say they hate the characters I love (and it happens a lot actually), but they have an equal right to their own perceptions and opinions. Besides, you would rather see real people become the objects of hate and scorn than fictional ones? That's kind of messed up and a symptom of everything that's wrong with fandom--in particular the way people who are obsessed with fair treatment of fictional characters and feel free to say hateful things to and about the fans who don't like them. No matter how much you love a fictional character, the person on the other side of the screen is actually real and the way you treat them is more important than the way they treat your favourite character.

152. Compared to the "Terrible Demon Sam Hain" that was nothing, bb.

159. I also find it squicky, but I would have found it weirder if Felix hadn't NOTICED, you know?

160. I platonic-friend-ship Dean and Thelma and desperately want to see them hanging out talking smack about women.

128: Oh, wait the movie, right...? Ok, yeah, that is weird.
But, frankly, I think it's kind of a lame reason to stop going to the store if you like it otherwise.

[identity profile] easilyentranced.livejournal.com 2009-03-26 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
128. I bet nobody went… I wouldn’t go to the release party for a DVD of a movie I’d already seen. That is fucking retarded. Still going to Borders, though.

140. LOL! Oh man, that’s fucking amazing.
