Your feelings are valid, OP. I was considered an essential worker and really, really hated it. It felt like everyone else got to enjoy doing nothing while getting extra unemployment while I was stuck doing more work for the same amount of money while having to be on-call outside my regular work hours. I wanted to work on my WIPs and learn to play guitar and get through my TBR pile like everyone else was doing, but I had zero energy for anything once I was finally done for the day. As much as I hate my commute, I’m happy to be back working in person because I’ve gotten my work/life balance sorted again and can actually devote my free time to my hobbies.

I think that's totally reasonable and understandable, OP.

One of the things about modern work is that the vast majority of people don't get to decide for themselves how they want to navigate the trade-off between the amount of money they get for their work and the amount of time they get to themselves. I suspect there are quite a lot of people who, if offered the choice of making a little less money but working significantly fewer hours, would make that choice. Because there are all kinds of things outside of work that people want to do, whether it's Minecraft ad Kingdom Hearts, or whatever else. It's just that our society is largely not set up to allow for that. Well, here was this big epochal moment where that was actually a reality - but you didn't get the chance to make the choice for yourself. It sucks! Just because it could have been worse, that doesn't mean you can't wish it had been better.
