TBH I think this was just simply the style of the times in the 00s. It was a very pervasive cultural mood, for example this is why everyone talked about hipsters all the time back then, and it has since largely faded away (for better and for worse).

But, either way, I really wouldn't feel too bad about it.

His character backstory in S1 was stupid though, and the attempted retcon to make it less stupid in S2 was just dull and preachy even by Trek standards. And also still stupid. At least when TOS and TNG did preachy, they at least made it campy as hell to keep you entertained if the metaphor did not land.

I know the city was going through a tough time back then, but I unironically loved living in LA in the 90s. There was a lot of energy among all the problems too.

Ever since my mom died I stopped matching my socks when doing laundry. It's the one noticeable thing I do differently since her passing. I probably wear mismatched socks each and every day and it's a true testament to how rarely I look at my feet.
