I have never seen this before... by which I mean, I have seen this before, in books belonging to people who are writing involved essays on their contents...I guess the #aesthetic is to look like you might be writing a thesis on whatever trendy YA novel tiktok is about??

Simon can be self-deprecating but I think it's mostly the Britishness. There are also times when it's warranted because obvious basic sudoku logic things are staring him in the face and it takes him like 10 minutes to bother to scan the rest of the board and notice.

Generally agreed on Mark, it's just less fun to watch.

Not me. We used to go when I was a kid and my mom still kept up the pretense that we were religious, but she finally gave up when we were teenagers.
