And now she's Uhura, Spock's woman. To be fair, I think fandom's doing this more than the movie actually did. For that to be true, they would've been more visible as a couple as they were than that farewell scene in the transporter. Until that point, no one on the ship were aware they were close.

I saw Uhura independent of Spock, she got on the Enterprise because she was qualified to be assigned to it instead of being assigned somewhere else because he happened to be in a (at the time hinted) relationship with her. If the situation was reversed, that she got on the Enterprise solely for being with him when she was more qualified for the ship she was assigned to, I would've called foul.

I just don't understand why the gorgeous minority woman has to be single to still be considered awesome. Smart, independent black women need love too.

Damn I hated those 'Your Mom' and 'Your Dad' subbers.
I'm not that desperate to have to resort to their subs. I'd rather not watch the show at all or wait patiently for another subbing group to pick up the project.

Same here. I was drawn to the character immediately, and yet was surrounded by a part of the fandom that bashed her on a daily basis. S-sigh.

To the question, yeah, I think the timing is what broke the episode. As a major Terra fan, I loved seeing her back though it broke my heart to see her - if it was really Terra - going back into old habits, but the placement turned off some fans.

Really, it was a good psychological way to end the series, but not so much on the team level the previous episodes had established.

The show (and the original movies especially) with the original crew are not as campy as I think people pretend they are. It's like the joke with.. theway.. Shatner.. delivers his.. dialog.. He was never that bad, but the exaggerated joke of it has become so ingrained in people's minds, they believe that's how it happened on the show.

You're not stupid or pathetic. I actually thought Toko was really great because in Season 3, even though it was obviously a crack pairing, there were "pairing moments." I just wish that Toph had gotten a real field trip with Zuko. Anyway, their moments definitely made me love the pairing. That and Toph looked too damn awesome in her Fire Nation outfit, and that alone might would have been enough to make me ship it XD.

So yeah, Toko fans unite :)

Yes. The quality of the next movie lays entirely on whether this one relationship remains. That's always been the point of the franchise.

Agreed. I think that the Terra storyline needed to be closed in a more psychologically appealing way, but it is really different. If they had left Terra's story open, it would've bothered a lot of fans. Personally I love that the creators were taking a risk like that.

To me, it wasn't awkward; he was devastated, and she was being there for him. How is that awkward? ZQ's Spock is a llot more stoic than the original; that scene was a great way to show some of his vulnerability and Uhura helped him show it.

I've read interviews where the writers talk about the subtexty nature of their relationship on the show and where Zoe talks about how she believes Uhura would pick staying in and studying over the party mentality (which.. kind of goes against the whole bar scene), but I haven't read anything which would completely rule out the possibility of her falling for Kirk eventually.
