Games thread!

I think that was pretty common until recently, and not everyone still realizes that "gypsy" is both a slur AND not a reference to a totally fictional group of people. Anyone who'd get mad at you because you didn't know any better as a kid isn't someone whose opinion is worth much, IMO.

Eh?

Seasons 3 and 4 were both good

when my niece was a really little kid she made the same mistake only with Native Americans, not Romani people (not the costume part but thinking they were fictional like fairies or mermaids)

You were a kid and meant no harm, and honestly, there were Roma inspired characters (or maybe stereotypes in some cases) in a lot of stories. I'm willing to wager you weren't the only one who dressed up like one back then. As long as you're now aware of what the word means and who the Romani are, I think you're doing just fine.

Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame came out in June 1996; you were frankly one of thousands, and no one is checking for literal children like that.

I'd say both were pretty strong, very accurate warnings.

The term 'gypsy' was very common in the 90's and had a very specific fantasy connotation with little if any negative connotation for most people who used the term. Same for 'dwarfs' and 'goblins'. There's no reason to be embarrassed over it - if you're not comfortable using the term now that's perfectly understandable but why anyone would judge a child for a costume is beyond me.
