The Pride of Chanur series by CJ Cherryh might just be for you.

The human involved is an alien in-setting, because the rest of the cast are aliens (there are four major oxygen breathers and two methane breathers which are Weird).

Similarly, while it isn't aliens that're doing their own thing while Earth is a shitty little backwater, the Alliance/Union series by the same author has it having fallen well out of importance and focus as the human race has spread outward and started colonies and a network of space stations.

Even the Earth Company fleet abandon the home planet and go rogue, leaving it without one.
