As opposed to books written by men where the super-competent, handsome and amazing hero guy is not at all meant to be a thinly veiled self-insert, oh no.

I'm not saying that it's less annoying when women authors do it, but it's a Thing about the schlocky fantasy genre, it's all self-insert for the author.

LMAO I mean Laurell K. Hamilton's picture for this is ON POINT. I mean, she said she based Richard off of her first husband and Richard and Anita's relationship in the books went to shit when her relationship with her first husband went to shit. Micah is based on her second husband, who was president of her fanclub, and Anita didn't start therapy until Laurell started therapy, and same with exploring her attraction to women, that didn't happen for Anita until Laurell started doing the same. SO LOL YEAH.

And that's just the stuff I remember before I bailed. I miss when they were more supernatural mystery and less Laurell's porn fetishes.
