The Sengoku period of Japanese history is the one mined excessively for historical fiction...by Japan. Shogun was a book written by a white guy featuring a white guy protag, so it's not shocking that it doesn't hit the same. There are plenty of Japanese shows, novels, video games, and anime featuring the same period and even characters, from a young Tokugawa live action to the Sanada Maru anime.

I miss the days of fandom where people would comment and then those comments would sometimes lead to conversations. I miss the community that this helped build. It helped fuel my writing in some ways.

I have a special place in my heart for people who add notes to bookmarks. Somehow, what they want to remember about the fic - even a single word- is so much more gratifying than a posted comment we both have to stress over.

I am wildly attracted to Brendan Gleeson. I think it started with his sidekick role in Braveheart, but honestly he just keeps getting hotter and hotter to me, no matter the role, no matter how they try to ugly him up. JFC he does it for me.

He used to be fairly hot, at least in a nice wig. A sexy wig will get me every time. He's lost some of it as he aged, and he doesn't do roles involving sexy wigs anymore. But his voice still gets me every time. Jason Isaacs.

Well, people often conflate objectively good with personal taste. Of course, it is entertainment and if they were really entertained, then it did its job well for them and it is, by that measure, good. And there are many ways to enjoy a show that's not well-written - you can like the characters, setting, and certain interactions and not think much of the episode plots; you can like the possibilities that blossom in your head when you think of the show; you can like the feeling that it gives you; you can like it for its faults because sometimes watching silliness and cheesiness are just fun; etc.
