Is Andromeda worth playing? I can't imagine the Mass Effect series without the geth so I never touched it :(

Yes, It's hugely unpleasant. After much thought, I've decided it's because a) it happened to my sister and her husband blamed my parents for it, so it messed up the family for a long time and b) it's so easily resisted.

Learn how the tagging system and filters work, especially the exclude function. If they can't find anything because of overtagging, then they're deliberately looking for fic that are overtagged just to complain.

Cheating as a kink bores me. Anything from the cheater's POV where it's either lying to partners or desperately justifying things to themselves and trying to be a sympathetic protag is boring as heck too. If a character has to be a villain they should at least be entertaining or fearsome or extreme, and cheating isn't an entertaining or fearsome or extreme kind of evil, just petty and self-absorbed. Has a "cheater, for cheating" ever made a top 10 villains list? It's NPC-level boring af

I don't mind "cheating" plots where two people are openly in a political marriage and falling for others outside their official arrangement though. Or plots where characters find themselves falling for someone else and break up a first ship without having an affair before they do that.

I really enjoyed it! It's an easy game to get lost in. There is a point where the open world questing wears out its welcome, but that doesn't usually hit me until a good sixty hours in. The combat is a lot of fun and I love the science (I'm a geologist with an astronomy background, so it was kind of made for me). If the OT is a 10/10, Andromeda is a 6.75 out of 10.

I don't think it's a particularly recent trend (see: Angel of the Morning, 1967) but yeah, not one I enjoy either. No personal cheating experience at all, I just think cheaters are cowardly liars who avoid having an adult conversation with their partner.
