Old people are always tutting at the youth but honestly they're not so bad and better than us in a lot of ways.

Glad to hear you were able to get back into your fandom.

I know what you mean, seeing people in the 00s mock furries (not even the bad ones, just in general) and OCs as a teen made me regress art-wise a lot because I didn't want to be made fun of. :( But now I'm letting myself have the fun I "couldn't" have as a teenager now.

I've always really liked OCs but i remember back then that so many of the OCs I (let myself?) got most invested in back then were guys because I felt like because they were guys and I was (or identified as) a girl that it took some of the potential for being mocked off me because it felt like more female OCs were labeled 'mary sues' and OCs were so often assumed to be a barely disguised insert of the creator , so with a male OC I could at least be like "see he is OBVIOUSLY very different from me"

Nowadays I have more variety of OCs and I care less about what people might say but also just feel like it's safer. Also I'm kind of getting into more of my "girls love" era so.. lol. yeah.

With fan OCs I noticed there was an enforced hierarchy even with people who made them. I was looking at a DeviantART user I used to really like's page, and I noticed this double standard that when they or their friends made Kingdom Hearts OCs it was "cool", but when other people did it was cringey and other people shouldn't post it. You could ship your fan OCs among each other but don't you dare ship them with a canon character. They can have fursonas, but other people are furf*gs if they draw a certain way.

It's so fucking tiring to care that much about what people who won't respect you anyway will think lol.

I hate to be all doomer about this, but I've noticed the pattern of cringe culture becoming more popular again now that the Internet has infiltrated every aspect of life. People my age are scared of getting cameras shoved into their faces and being posted on TikTok for the sake of harassment if they express their passions in public, or even other online spaces. Anti culture really sent us backwards.

I'm approaching 19 years old and I just recently started getting over the fear of people thinking i'm a freak for being into danmei or some shit.
